2007 New Zealand Music Awards
The 2007 New Zealand Music awards took place on 18 October at the Aotea Centre in Auckland, which also included the first inductee into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame. A number of awards were presented at parallel ceremonies (the NZ Radio Awards, Technical Awards, Gold Guitar Awards, Pacific Music Awards, Auckland Folk Festival, and the Wellington International Jazz Festival). Multiple winners on the night included The Mint Chicks with five awards (including guitarist Ruban Nielson's Best Cover), Hollie Smith with three awards and Evermore with two. Liam Finn
Liam Mullane Finn (born 24 September 1983) is a New Zealand singer and musician. Born in Melbourne, Australia, he moved to New Zealand as a child. He is the son of musicians Sharon and Neil Finn. John Psathas
John Psathas, (born Ioannis Psathas, el, Ιωάννης Ψάθας; 1966) is a New Zealand composer. He has works in the repertoire of such high-profile musicians as Evelyn Glennie, Michael Houstoun, Michael Brecker, Joshua Redman and the New Juilliard Ensemble, and is one of New Zealand's most frequently performed composers. He has established an international profile and receives regular commissions from organisations in New Zealand and overseas. Early life and education The son of Greek immigrant parents, Psathas grew up in Taumarunui and then Napier. He attended Napier Boys' High School and left early to study composition and piano at Victoria University of Wellington. Age Pryor
Age Pryor is a New Zealand musician and songwriter. He records and performs solo, he plays many instruments and is a founding member of the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra, The Woolshed Sessions, and Congress of Animals, and is also a contributing artist to the group Fly My Pretties. Pryor had his songs played on b.net. Pryor contributed two songs to the Miramax feature film '' Eagle Versus Shark''. New Zealand Music Award For Best Music Video
Best Music Video is an Aotearoa Music Award that honours New Zealand artists for excellence in music video production. The award was first presented in 1983 and is given to the video director. Previous winners have included feature film directors Niki Caro, Jonathan King and Chris Graham, and acclaimed artist Fane Flaws. The most wins have gone to Joe Lonie (aka Jo Fisher) who won three time for Supergroove videos and a fourth for Goodshirt. Shapeshifter (sometimes referred to as New Zealand Shapeshifter) are a live drum and bass act from New Zealand. They are known for their live shows and blend of heavy soul with drum and bass. They have made appearances at Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Big Day Out, Parklife plus sold-out performances across Europe, Australia and New Zealand. History and biography Shapeshifter formed in 1999 after the four founding members met at jazz school. 4 Corners is a New Zealand Hip-Hop group formed in 1998. Their songs ''On the Down Low'' and ''By My Side'' charted on New Zealand's top 40 in 2005 and 2006 respectively. History The name ''4 Corners'' originates from the 4 elements of the Hip Hop culture: MCing (rapping), DJing, breaking (breakdancing) and graffiti art (Graf). 4 Corners consists of two MC's, Koma and Hepaklypz, with DJ Omega B, and was formed in 1998 with members from different groups within Hamilton. The Deceptikonz are a New Zealand Hip hop group formed in the South Auckland suburb of Manurewa in 1996 which consists of Savage, Devolo, Alphrisk and Mareko. PNC (rapper)
Sam Hansen, better known by his stage name PNC, is a New Zealand hip hop artist and rapper. The name "PNC" is an acronym for Palmerston North City. He attended Awatapu College. PNC first gained underground notoriety performing alongside Breaking Wreckwordz. His unofficial single "Day in the Life" stayed at number one on the Bfm charts for three weeks. He followed that with appearances on P-Money's "321 Remix", "Get Back" and the NZ chart topping "Stop The Music" single from the ''Magic City'' album in 2004. PNC later signed to P-Money's Dirty Records and released his first album, ''Rookie Card'', in 2006. The first two singles, "Bomb!" and "Just Roll", were relatively successful songs in New Zealand. Crawl (Atlas Song)
"Crawl" is the first commercially available single by New Zealand rock band Atlas, released in 2007 from their debut album, ''Reasons for Voyaging''. It stayed atop New Zealand's RIANZ Singles Chart for seven weeks and was certified gold for selling over 5,000 copies in New Zealand. A music video directed by Olly Langridge was created for the song. In a 2009 interview with New Zealand news media site Stuff, vocalist Sean Cunningham said, "Believe it or not, when we were writing 'Crawl' we didn't know it was a catchy song." Atlas (band)
Atlas were a New Zealand rock band which was formed in 2005 and disbanded in late 2008. Founding In April 2005, in Hollywood, California, producer Hank Linderman (The Beach Boys, Eagles) introduced New Zealand rocker Ben Campbell (a former member of the band Zed) and his sister Beth Campbell (a backing vocalist for the band Chicago), to 19-year-old American solo artist Sean Cunningham. Together with Joe McCallum, the group decided to form the band Atlas.
