2007 Independence Bowl
The 2007 PetroSun Independence Bowl, part of the 2007–08 NCAA football bowl season, took place on December 30, 2007 at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana. The competing teams were the Alabama Crimson Tide, representing the Southeastern Conference, and the Colorado Buffaloes, from the Big 12 Conference. Alabama won the game, 30–24. This was the only 2007–08 bowl game in which both teams finished 6–6 on the regular season. It was also the first bowl game for both respective head coaches (Nick Saban and Dan Hawkins) at their current programs. 2007–08 NCAA Football Bowl Games
The 2007–08 NCAA football bowl games concluded the 2007 NCAA Division I FBS regular season in college football. A total of 32 team-competitive plus four all-star postseason games were played. While bowl games had been the purview of only the very best teams for nearly a century, this was the second consecutive year that teams with non-winning seasons participated in bowl games. To fill the 64 available bowl slots from the 119 schools in the Bowl Subdivision, a total of seven teams (11% of all participants) with non-winning seasons participated in bowl games—all seven had a .500 (6-6) season. In gridiron football, a punt is a kick performed by dropping the ball from the hands and then kicking the ball before it hits the ground. The most common use of this tactic is to punt the ball downfield to the opposing team, usually on the final down, with the hope of giving the receiving team a field position that is more advantageous to the kicking team when possession changes. Tyson DeVree (born November 12, 1984) is a former American football tight end. He was signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He last played college football at Colorado. He has also been a member of the Buffalo Bills, Hartford Colonials, Cleveland Browns, and Indianapolis Colts. Cody Hawkins
Cody Norman Hawkins (born March 24, 1988) is an American college football coach and a former professional and college football player. He is the head football coach at Idaho State University. Hawkins played as a quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes and professionally in Sweden for the Stockholm Mean Machines in the Superserien league for two seasons. He is son of UC Davis head coach Dan Hawkins. High school Hawkins never lost playing football while growing up, going 59–0 since beginning in sixth grade. Rolando Marquise McClain (born July 14, 1989) is a former American football linebacker. He played college football at Alabama, where he was recognized as a unanimous All-American and won the 2010 BCS National Championship. He was selected eighth overall by the Oakland Raiders in 2010 NFL Draft. Early years McClain attended Decatur High School in Decatur, Alabama, where he played linebacker and tight end for the Decatur Red Raiders high school football team. As a junior, he made 104 tackles, 11 for loss, four sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery to go along with his 24 receptions for 436 yards on the offensive side of the ball.
