The 2007 CrossFit Games were the inaugural CrossFit Games, which were held on June 30 and July 1, 2007, on a ranch in Aromas, California. There was no qualification process for the first Games, and around 70 athletes turned up to participate in the Games, along with around 150 spectators. There were three events, the first one selected at random on the day. The men's individual competition was won by James Fitzgerald, the women's individual by Jolie Gentry. The Affiliate Cup was awarded to CrossFit Santa Cruz for the best combined team members' individual scores. From its inception, the CrossFit Games have awarded an equal sum in prize money to both the male and female winners of the individual competitions, which in the first year was $500. Aromas, California
Aromas (Spanish for "Perfumes") is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Monterey County and San Benito County, California, United States. The population was 2,708 at the 2020 census. The CDP straddles the border of the two counties, with Monterey County to the west and San Benito County to the east. The Santa Cruz County line is less than a mile to the northwest, and Santa Clara County is about to the north. Its population was almost equally distributed between the two counties with 1,358 in Monterey County and 1,292 in San Benito County; this was down from a population of 2,797 during the 2000 census (1,427 in Monterey County and 1,370 in San Benito County). Aromas is one of four CDPs in California that are divided between two or more counties. 2008 CrossFit Games
The 2008 CrossFit Games were the second annual CrossFit Games to be held following the inaugural Games in 2007. The Games were held on July 5–6, 2008, on a ranch in Aromas, California, United States. As with the first Games, there was no qualification process for athletes wishing to compete in the Games. The number of participating athletes was limited to 300 on a first-come first-serve basis, and the number of competition events increased to four. The men's competition was won by Jason Khalipa, the women's by Caity Matter, and the Affiliate Cup was awarded to CrossFit Oakland. Each winner of the individual events won $1,500. The first documentary film of the Games, ''Every Second Counts'', was made for this year's Games.
