2006–07 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Rankings
Two human polls comprise the 2006–07 NCAA Division I women's basketball rankings, the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll, in addition to various publications' preseason polls. The AP poll is currently a poll of sportswriters, while the ''USA Today'' Coaches' Poll is a poll of college coaches. The AP conducts polls weekly through the end of the regular season and conference play, while the Coaches poll conducts a final, post-NCAA tournament poll as well. Maryland Terrapins Women's Basketball
The Maryland Terrapins women's basketball team represents the University of Maryland in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I competition. Maryland, a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), left the ACC in 2014 to join the Big Ten Conference. The program won the 2006 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament championship and has appeared in the NCAA Final Four five times (1982, 1989, 2006, 2014, 2015); Maryland also appeared once in the AIAW Final Four (1978). As members of the ACC, the Terrapins won regular season conference championships (1979, 1982, 1988, 1989, 2009) and an ACC-record ten conference tournament championships (1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 2009, 2012). AP Poll
The Associated Press poll (AP poll) provides weekly rankings of the top 25 NCAA teams in one of three Division I college sports: football, men's basketball and women's basketball. The rankings are compiled by polling 62 sportswriters and broadcasters from across the nation. Each voter provides their own ranking of the top 25 teams, and the individual rankings are then combined to produce the national ranking by giving a team 25 points for a first place vote, 24 for a second place vote, and so on down to 1 point for a twenty-fifth place vote. Ballots of the voting members in the AP poll are made public. Coaches Poll
The Coaches Poll is a weekly ranking of the top 25 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) college football, Division I college basketball, and Division I college baseball teams. The football version of the poll has been known officially as the Amway Coaches Poll since 2014. The football rankings are compiled by the Amway Board of Coaches which is made up of 62 head coaches at Division I FBS institutions. All coaches are members of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). The basketball rankings are compiled by the USA Today Sports Board of Coaches which is made up of 32 head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). 2006–07 LSU Lady Tigers Basketball Team
The 2006–07 LSU Lady Tigers basketball team represented Louisiana State University during the 2006–07 NCAA Division I women's basketball season college basketball season. The Lady Tigers, were led by third-year head coach Pokey Chatman before her resignation prior to the NCAA tournament. Interim coach Bob Starkey guided the team for the final five games. LSU played their home games at Pete Maravich Assembly Center and were members of the Southeastern Conference. They finished the season 30–8, 10–4 in SEC play to finish tied for third in the conference regular season standings. As the four seed in the SEC women's tournament, they lost in the championship game to Vanderbilt. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA women's tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Fresno (FRS) region. 2006–07 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Women's Basketball Team
The 2006–07 Rutgers Scarlet Knights women's basketball team represented Rutgers University during the 2006–07 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Scarlet Knights, led by 12th year head coach C. Vivian Stringer, played their home games at the Louis Brown Athletic Center, better known as ''The RAC'', as a member of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 27–9, 12–4 in Big East play to finish tied for second place. They advanced to the championship game of the Big East women's tournament where they defeated No. 2 UConn to capture the tournament title. They received an automatic bid to the NCAA women's basketball tournament as No. 4 seed in the Greensboro region, and they would reach the second Final Four in program history.
