2006–07 Brentford F.C. Season
During the 2006–07 English football season, Brentford competed in Football League One. The club finished bottom of the league and was relegated to Football League Two. Season summary After defeat in the 2006 League One play-off semi-finals, Brentford were rocked by the resignation of popular manager Martin Allen on 30 May 2006, who stated he "had taken the club as far as I could and felt it was right for me to leave". Chairman Greg Dyke revealed that, despite an FA Cup run and the £500,000 sale of forward DJ Campbell during 2005–06 season, Allen's departure was due to the reduction of the cash-strapped club's wage budget for 2006–07. Brentford F
Brentford is a suburban town in West London, England and part of the London Borough of Hounslow. It lies at the confluence of the River Brent and the Thames, west of Charing Cross. Its economy has diverse company headquarters buildings which mark the start of the M4 corridor; in transport it also has two railway stations and Boston Manor Underground station on its north-west border with Hanwell. Football League Two
The English Football League Two (often referred to as League Two for short or Sky Bet League Two for sponsorship purposes, and known as the Football League Two from 2004 until 2016) is the third and lowest division of the English Football League (EFL) and fourth-highest division overall in the English football league system. Matthew Heywood
Matthew Stephen Heywood (born 26 August 1979) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender from 1997 until 2011. Having started his career at Burnley as a trainee he signed professional terms in 1997. In 2001 after failing to establish himself a first-team player he left to join Swindon Town where his career took off, becoming an established centre half for four years before moving on to Bristol City in 2005. A year later he joined Brentford and in 2008 following his final season at the club he was awarded the supporters player of the season award for the 2007–08 season. Adam Griffiths (born 21 August 1979 in Sydney) is an Australian professional football manager who currently serves as the Assistant Coach of Western Sydney Wanderers. He is a former professional football (soccer) player and Socceroo. Since 2020 he has been Head Coach of National Premiere Leagues NSW side Manly United. Free Transfer (association Football)
In professional association football, a free transfer, also known as a Bosman transfer, involves a professional association football club releasing a player when the player's contract has expired or made available just before the end of the contract. The player can then go on to sign for any club offering a contract to them. Okeremute Samuel Sodje (born 25 May 1979) is a former professional footballer who played as a centre back. Born in England to Nigerian parents, Sodje represented Nigeria at international level. Club career Early years Sodje was born in Greenwich, London and joined Margate at the beginning of the 2002–03 season and scored on his debut with a header. He won the Supporters' Player of the Year award at the end of his first season with Margate. In the summer of 2003, he went on trial at Yeovil Town and Chester City, but neither team signed him. Michael Thomas Turner (born 9 November 1983) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender. Club career Charlton Athletic Born in Lewisham, London, Turner started his career at Charlton Athletic. As part of a link-up Charlton had with Internazionale, he spent several months of his apprenticeship with the Italian club's under-19 team. Jay Tabb
Jay Anthony Tabb (born 21 February 1984) is a retired professional footballer. He began his career at Crystal Palace but was released as a junior and joined Brentford in 2000. He moved to Crawley Town in 2003 on a loan which was ultimately cut short by injury. He played in both of Brentford's unsuccessful play-off campaigns in 2005 and 2006, making over 150 appearances for the club in total.
