As of 2012, there are 10 nationwide and 21 regional DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial) television channels, and there are more than 30 other channels either produced in the Republic of Croatia or produced for the Croatian market and broadcast via IPTV (Internet Protocol television), cable television, cable, or satellite television. The electronic communications market in Croatia is regulated by the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), which issues broadcast licenses and monitors the market. The DVB-T and satellite transmission infrastructure is developed and maintained by the state-owned company Odašiljači i veze (OiV). The first television signal broadcast in Croatia occurred in 1939 during the Zagreb Fair, where Philips showcased its television system. The prize is increased from 1 million HRK (134 000 EUR) to 1.5 million HRK (200 000 EUR), but it is expected that the actual winner would get significantly lower amount due to penalties for various House rule violations. Big Brother (Croatian TV Series)
''Big Brother'' is the Croatian version of the international reality television franchise ''Big Brother'' created by producer John de Mol in 1997. The show was aired on RTL Televizija. It followed a number of contestants who live in an isolated house trying to avoid being evicted by the public with the aim of winning a large cash prize at the end of the run. Throughout the season, housemates are completing tasks, every incomplete task reduces the prize. In the first four regular seasons and the celebrity season, the house was located in Jadran Film studios, in Dubrava, Zagreb. In the fifth season, the house used is the '' Big Brother Thailand'' house. There have been seven regular seasons and one celebrity season. ''Big Brother'' holds the record for having the most regular seasons with only male contestants winning the show each year (although the celebrity edition was won by a woman). ''Ples sa zvijezdama'' is the Croatian version of '' Dancing with the Stars'' and translates precisely such. Nine seasons have aired on HRT1 from 2006 to 2013 with a ninth season airing on Nova TV in 2019. The eleventh season is currently being broadcast on Nova TV. ''Zabranjena ljubav'' ( lit. "Forbidden Love", commonly abbreviated to ZLJ) is a Croatian daytime soap opera about the lives and loves of both young and older characters, focused on Zagreb, capital city of Croatia. Actors Mario Valentić, Antonija Šola, Nada Rocco, Dejan Marcikić and Anita Berisha (last one with some months of break) were the only remaining original cast members until the final episode. About show The soap tackles controversial issues, such as incest, rape, homosexuality, adultery, and deadly diseases. The viewers of this soap are varied, ranging from small children to senior citizens.
