2006 UCI Road World Championships – Men's Road Race
The 2006 edition of the men's UCI Road World Championships Road Race took place on September 24, 2006, in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Reigning Olympic champion and Italian Paolo Bettini captured the gold medal and the rainbow jersey as the 2006 World Cycling Champion. The 36-year-old German sprinter Erik Zabel took the silver medal and UCI ProTour winner Alejandro Valverde of Spain captured third place for the bronze medal. A total of 136 cyclists actually finished the race, with Slovakia's Roman Broniš in last place (+ 13'38"). Rainbow Jersey
The rainbow jersey is the distinctive jersey worn by the reigning world champion in a cycling discipline, since 1927. The jersey is predominantly white with five horizontal bands in the UCI colours around the chest. From the bottom up the colours are: green, yellow, black, red and blue; the same colours that appear in the rings on the Olympic flag. The tradition is applied to all disciplines, including road racing, track racing, cyclo-cross, BMX, Trials and the disciplines within mountain biking. A world champion must wear the jersey when competing in the same discipline, category and speciality for which the title was won. For example, the world road race champion would wear the garment while competing in stage races (except for time trial stages) and one-day races, but would not be entitled to wear it during time trials. Uroš Murn
Uroš Murn (born 9 February 1975) is a Slovenian former professional road bicycle racer, who competed professional from 1997 to 2010. Born in Novo Mesto, Murn turned professional in 1997 with the Slovenian squad. In 2000, Murn moved to the Italian team, where he stayed for four seasons. Early successes in the Tours of Croatia and Slovenia, where Murn won two stages and a stage and the sprints competition respectively, were not matched in later season. Murn took the opportunity to move to the top tier of racing with Phonak in 2004. On 6 December 2010, it was reported by the Slovenian Press Agency that Uroš Murn decided to end his bicycling career. László Bodrogi
László Bodrogi (born 11 December 1976 in Budapest, Hungary) is a former Hungarian and French professional road bicycle racer, specializing in the individual time trial. Biography László was born in 1976 in Budapest, Hungary. His father, László Bodrogi, managed his career from his childhood. Early success in Hungary In the nineties, Hungarian bicycle manufacturer Schwinn-Csepel (successor of Csepel) was his main sponsor. In turn, he was the main athlete of the company. Karsten Kroon
Karsten Kroon (born 29 January 1976) is a Dutch former professional road bicycle racer who most recently rode for , a UCI ProTeam. He retired at the end of the 2014 season. Career Born in Dalen, Kroon showed his talent as an amateur by winning the professional Ronde van Drenthe in 1996. He joined the youth squad in 1997 and won a number of amateur races in two years. In 1999, he moved to the senior squad. His few wins included stage 8, on Bastille Day, of the 2002 Tour de France.
