2006 U.S. Women's Open
The 2006 U.S. Women's Open was the 61st U.S. Women's Open, held June 30 to July 3 at Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island. Delayed by fog for a day, the first round started on Friday and the final two rounds were played on Sunday. The champion was Annika Sörenstam, the winner of an 18-hole playoff on Monday over Pat Hurst by four strokes, The two had finished at even par (284) after 72 holes on Sunday, two strokes ahead of Se Ri Pak, Stacy Prammanasudh, and Michelle Wie. It was Sörenstam's third victory in the championship, the first in a decade after winning consecutive titles in 1995 U.S. Women's Open, 1995 and 1996 U.S. Women's Open, 1996, and was her tenth and final Women's major golf championships, major championship victory. 2006 LPGA Tour
The 2006 LPGA Tour was a series of weekly golf tournaments for elite female golfers from around the world, which took place from February through December 2006. The tournaments were sanctioned by the United States-based Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). In 2006, prize money on the LPGA Tour exceeded US$50 million for the first time in the history of the LPGA Tour. Lorena Ochoa became the first Mexican to top the money list on the LPGA Tour, or any major international golf tour, while Annika Sörenstam held her position as the top ranked player through the whole season. Women's golf has a set of major championships which parallels that in men's golf, with the women's system newer and less stable than the men's. Karrie Webb
Karrie Ann Webb (born 21 December 1974) is an Australian professional golfer. She plays mainly on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour, and also turns out once or twice a year on the ALPG Tour in her home country. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. She has 41 wins on the LPGA Tour, more than any other active player. Early life and amateur career Webb was born in Ayr, Queensland. Juli Inkster (born Juli Simpson; June 24, 1960) is an American professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour. With a professional career spanning 29 years to date, Inkster's 31 wins rank her second in wins among all active players on the LPGA Tour; she has over $14 million in career earnings. She also has more wins in Solheim Cup matches than any other American, and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.
