2006 South Korean Local Elections
The 4th Local Elections were held in South Korea on 31 May 2006. It was the first local elections in South Korea to have political parties nominating candidates for Municipal Councillors. The ruling Uri Party proved its declining popularity since the 2004 general elections while the main opposition party, Grand National Party managed to clinch back lost grounds, using the opportunity for the presidential election the following year. Park Geun-hye
Park Geun-hye (; ; often in English ; born 2 February 1952) is a South Korean politician who served as the 11th president of South Korea from 2013 to 2017, until she was impeached and convicted on related corruption charges. Park was the first woman to be elected president of South Korea, and also the first female president popularly elected as head of state in East Asia. She was also the first South Korean president to be born after the founding of South Korea. Her father, Park Chung-hee, was president from 1963 to 1979, serving five consecutive terms after he seized power in 1961. Before her presidency, Park was leader of the conservative Grand National Party (GNP) from 2004 to 2006 and leader of the Liberty Korea Party from 2011 to 2012. Kim Tae-ho (politician)
Kim Tae-ho (; born 21 August 1962) was the prime minister-designate of South Korea who was appointed in a reshuffle that replaced seven other ministers. He stepped down as nominee amid growing political conflict over his ethical qualifications. He was previously the Governor of South Gyeongsang from 2004 to 2010. Early life and career Kim was born in a farming family in Geochang, South Gyeongsang Province. Kim Kwan-yong (born November 29, 1942) has been the 29th, 30th and 31st governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Republic of Korea. Kim Wan-ju
Kim Wan-ju (; born May 25, 1946) is a South Korean politician who was the 32nd governor of the South Korean province of North Jeolla from 2006 to 2014; he was also the mayor of the South Korean city of Jeonju from 1998 to 2006. Lee Wan-koo (; 16 July 1950 โ 14 October 2021) was a South Korean politician who briefly served as Prime Minister in 2015. Biography Lee was born in 1950 in , Cheongyang, South Chungcheong Province. After graduating from Sungkyunkwan University, Lee worked as a public officer in the Economic Planning Board (current Ministry of Strategy and Finance) and later moved to the National Police Agency. Chung Woo-taik (Korean: ์ ์ฐํ, born 18 February 1953) is a South Korean politician who served as the former Governor of North Chungcheong from 2006 to 2010. He is currently the Member of the National Assembly for Sangdang since 2022. Chung is a notable Hoseo-based politician, although his actual birthplace is Busan. Kim Moon-soo (Hangul: ๊น๋ฌธ์; born August 27, 1951) is a Korean conservative politician and the 32nd Governor of Gyeonggi Province in South Korea. A former labor activist, he began his career in politics when he participated in the foundation of the Peopleโs Party in 1990. Oh Keo-don (; born 28 October 1948) is a South Korean public servant and politician who served as mayor of Busan from 2018 until 2020. Life Oh Keo-don was born in Busan in 1948.
