2006 Le Mans Series Season
The 2006 Le Mans Series was the third season of ACO Le Mans Series. It is a series for Le Mans prototype and Grand Touring style cars broken into 4 classes: LMP1, LMP2, GT1, and GT2. It began on 9 April and ended on 24 September after 5 rounds. Schedule † - The race in Istanbul was shortened from its original planned 1000 km to a limit of 4 hours due to a lack of fuel brought to the event by organizers. ‡ - This event was originally planned to be held at Monza, but had to be cancelled due to conflicts. Jarama was announced as its replacement. Season results Overall winner in bold. Teams Championships Points are awarded to the top 8 finishers in the order of 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. ORECA (Organisation Exploitation Compétition Automobiles) is a French racing team and race car constructor, founded in 1973 and run by Hugues de Chaunac, former team manager of F1 team AGS. Oreca has had success in many areas of motorsport. Since the early 1990s the team has concentrated on running sports cars and GT cars. Jean-Philippe Belloc is a racecar driver from France. He was born in Montauban, on 24 April 1970. Belloc started racing in single-seaters and won the French Formula Renault Championship in 1992, at his second attempt, after four wins. Moving up to the French Formula Three Championship in 1993, he took the title the following year with five wins. He raced in Formula 3000 until 1997. Juan Barazi (born 22 January 1968 in Copenhagen) is a Danish racing driver and businessman. The Swiss-educated lawyer is the scion of an ancient Syrian-Kurdish noble family. Barazi entered motorsport through his extensive classic car collection which includes an Aston Martin DB3S, Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato, a Ferrari 250LM, a Ferrari 246 Sport Dino and a Porsche 917. Jean-Christophe "Jules" Boullion (born 27 December 1969) is a French professional racing driver who raced in Formula One for the Sauber team. Career Born in Saint-Brieuc, near Côtes d'Armor, Boullion started karting in 1982 and moved to cars in 1988 after attending a racing school outside Paris.
