2006 Hong Kong Election Committee Subsector Elections
The 2006 Election Committee subsector elections were held from 7.30 am to 10.30 pm on 10 December 2006 in order to elect 664 members of Election Committee. The Election Committee was responsible for electing the Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive in 2007 Chief Executive Election. Background In 2002, Tung Chee-hwa who failed from favour with many Hong Kong people was elected as Chief Executive of Hong Kong in the 2002 poll which the pro-democracy camp boycotted. This time, however, the pro-democracy decided to take part in the Chief Executive election in an attempt to force candidates to care more about the people's livelihood and prevent Donald Tsang reelected uncontested. After discussion, the camp decided that Alan Leong would run as a representative of the camp. As a result, the camp tried hard to gain at least 100 representatives of theirs to get the nomination threshold to enter the race. Hong Kong Democratic Foundation
The Hong Kong Democratic Foundation (; HKDF) is a Hong Kong public policy think tank established initially as a political party on 27 October 1989. The Foundation was founded in the run up to the first Legislative Council direct elections of 1991 by a group of business people and professionals who endorsed democratic ideals led by Jimmy McGregor and Dr Leong Che-hung. Hong Kong Association For Democracy And People's Livelihood
The Hong Kong Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood (ADPL) is a Hong Kong pro-democracy social-liberal political party catering to grassroots interest with a strong basis in Sham Shui Po. Established on 26 October 1986, it was one of the three major pro-democracy groups along with the Meeting Point and the Hong Kong Affairs Society in the 1980s. The ADPL survived through the great unification of the pro-democracy camp in the 1991 and became the only pro-democracy party to sit in the Beijing-controlled Provisional Legislative Council in 1997. The Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union (HKPTU) was a pro-democracy trade union, professional association and social concern group in Hong Kong. Until its disbandment in 2021, it was the largest teachers' organisation in Hong Kong with some 95,000 members at the time of disbandment. Mission The PTU was known to be politically liberal, socially activist, and concerned with the defence of the legal rights of teachers. Hong Kong Social Workers' General Union (HKSWGU) is a trade union for the social workers in Hong Kong. It was established in 1980. The current president, Cheung Kwok-che is the member in the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. It is one of the trade unions in pro-democratic Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions. History The SWGU was founded in 1980 after the movement demanded the government to take efforts to resettle the boat people in Yaumatei's harbour.
