2006 Hackney Council Election
Elections for London Borough of Hackney Council were held on Thursday 4 May 2006. The whole council was up for election. Hackney is divided into 19 wards, each electing three councillors, so a total of 57 seats were up for election. Andrew Boff
Andrew Boff (born 14 April 1958) is a British politician who has been Deputy Chair of the London Assembly since May 2022. A member of the Conservative Party, he has served a London-wide Assembly Member (AM) since the 2008 election. Boff served as Leader of the Conservatives in the London Assembly from June 2012 to October 2015. Andrew Boff was a supporter of the "Yes! 2006 United Kingdom Local Elections
Local government elections took place in England (only) on Thursday 4 May 2006. Polling stations were open between 7:00 and 22:00. All London borough council seats were up for election, as well as a third of the seats on each of the metropolitan borough councils, and a third of some unitary authorities and shire districts. Several councils elected half of their seats: these were Adur, Cheltenham, Fareham, Gosport, Hastings, Nuneaton and Bedworth, and Oxford. Local elections follow a four-year cycle, and the 2006 election was the follow-on from the 2002 elections. Monty Goldman (born 1931) is an activist in the Communist Party of Britain and former Communist Party of Great Britain member who was expelled in the 1980s during that party's factional conflicts. Goldman has stood in elections for more than forty years. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. Jules Pipe
Julian Benjamin Pipe (born May 1965) is a British politician who currently serves as the Deputy Mayor of London for Planning, Regeneration and Skills. Pipe was the first directly elected mayor of the London Borough of Hackney between his election in October 2002 and his resignation in the summer of 2016. He worked as a journalist until taking on the full-time position as mayor. The council was short-listed for Council of the Year in 2010 in what was described as a "Meteoric rise". 2010 Hackney London Borough Council Election
Elections for London Borough of Hackney Council were held on Thursday 6 May 2010. The whole council was up for election. Hackney is divided into 19 wards, each electing 3 councillors, so a total of 57 seats were up for election. Summary results At the 2010 council election, Labour won five seats from the Conservatives. These included two in New River; two in Lordship and one in Springfield. A former Green Party seat (in Clissold) was also lost to Labour. The Conservatives remain the largest opposition party with four seats (down from nine in 2006). The election attracted national attention when, along with some other constituencies in the country, up to 270 people failed to be issued with ballot papers by the deadline of 10pm. This meant that they could not vote, and residents were angry when turned away from polling stations. The Council apologised unreservedly, blaming the high turnout for the problem. The Independent Working Class Association (IWCA) is a minor working-class political party in the United Kingdom that aims to promote the political and economic interests of the working class, regardless of the consequences to existing political and economic structures.
