2006 Badminton World Cup
The 2006 Badminton World Cup was the twenty-first edition of the international Badminton World Cup tournament. The event was held at the Olympic Sports Park in Yiyang, Hunan, China from 24 to 28 October 2006. It was organized by the Table Tennis and Badminton Administration Center under General Administration of Sport of China, hosted by the Hunan Sports Bureau and the Yiyang People's Government, and also co-organized by China Mobile Group Hunan Co., Ltd., with a total prize money of US$250,000. Some of top players declined to participate, since there is no ranking points awarded in this tournament, and tight competition schedule at that year, with also held the World Championship, Thomas & Uber Cup, Asian Games, and the European Club League. In the end, the host Chinese national team won the men's singles, women's singles and women's doubles, while the men's and mixed doubles won by Indonesian players. Yiyang
Yiyang () is a prefecture-level city on the Zi River in Hunan province, China, straddling Lake Dongting and bordering Hubei to the north. Cai Yun (born 19 January 1980) is a former professional badminton player representing China. He is the 2012 London Olympic gold medallist and a four-time World Champion in men's doubles. He is regarded as one of the greatest men's doubles player of all time. Liliyana Natsir
Liliyana Natsir (born 9 September 1985) is an Indonesian former badminton player who specialized in doubles. She is one of the standout front court player, with dexterousness and skill in controlling and executing the shuttlecock. Natsir has tremendous record over more than two decade by winning a gold and a silver from the Olympic Games, and four gold medals at the BWF World Championships. Her achievements are recognized worldwide, and was inducted in the BWF Hall of Fame in 2022. Natsir was ranked world number 1 in the mixed doubles with two different partner. Nova Widianto
Andreas Nova Widianto (born 10 October 1977) is an Indonesian former badminton player. He is currently the Indonesia national team mixed doubles head coach. Career Nova Widianto is considered one of the greatest doubles player in his era. He is known for his superb movement on court and versatility to be paired with various players. Widianto specialized in mixed doubles. He enjoyed some international success with Vita Marissa, winning the Badminton at the Southeast Asian Games, Southeast Asian Games in 2001, the Asian Badminton Championships in 2003, and the Japan Open (badminton), Japan Open in 2004. However, his greatest success came from a partnership with Lilyana Natsir. They have been one of the world's two or three leading teams. Chin Eei Hui
Chin Eei Hui (; Hakka Pha̍k-fa-sṳ: Chhìn Ngì-fui; born 18 June 1982) is a former badminton player from Malaysia who plays in both women's and mixed doubles. She worked as a coach for Malaysia's national women's doubles players of which the contract ended in 2020. Starting from 2021 until now, she partners with Li-Ning and work with independent players such as Tan Kian Meng, Lai Pei Jing, Teo Ee Yi and Ong Yew Sin. Wong Pei Tty (, born 11 November 1981) is a former doubles badminton player from Malaysia. Currently, she works as an assistant coach for Malaysia women's double national team. Career Wong competed in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in women's doubles with partner Chin Eei Hui. They defeated Seiko Yamada and Shizuka Yamamoto of Japan in the first round but were defeated by Gao Ling and Huang Sui of China in the round of 16. Cheng Wen-hsing
Cheng Wen-hsing (; born 24 February 1982) is a Taiwanese former badminton player. She is now works as German national team coach. Career Cheng competed for Chinese Taipei in the 2004 Olympics in the women's doubles with partner Chien Yu-chin. They defeated Helen Nichol and Charmaine Reid of Canada in the first round but were defeated by Hwang Yu-mi and Lee Hyo-jung of South Korea in the round of 16. Cheng also competed in the mixed doubles with partner Tsai Chia-hsin. They defeated Chris Dednam and Antoinette Uys of South Africa in the first round, but lost to Zhang Jun and Gao Ling of China in the round of 16. Chien Yu-chin (; born 24 October 1982) is a Taiwanese former badminton player. Summer Olympics Chien competed for Chinese Taipei in the 2004 Olympics in the women's doubles with partner Cheng Wen-hsing. Yang Wei (badminton)
Yang Wei (; born 13 January 1979) is a Chinese former badminton player who affiliate with Guangdong provincial team. Career A woman's doubles specialist, Yang has won some forty international titles, most of them in the sport's top tier events, since 1998. Prior to 2003 she partnered Huang Nanyan with whom she earned a silver medal at the Badminton at the 2000 Summer Olympics, 2000 Sydney Olympics and gained the winning point against Korea national badminton team, South Korea in the 2002 Uber Cup (women's world team championship) final. Zhang Jiewen (; born 4 January 1981) is a Chinese former badminton player. Career One of China's most successful women's doubles specialists, Zhang has won some thirty international titles, the vast majority of them in partnership with Yang Wei, during the first decade of the 21st century. Huang Sui (; born 8 January 1982) is a Chinese-Australian female badminton player. Career Although Huang has won the Chinese National mixed doubles title almost all of her many international titles have come in women's doubles with Gao Ling, in a partnership where Huang's strength and consistency in the backcourt have complemented Gao's ability in the forecourt. Gao Ling
Gao Ling (; born 14 March 1979) is a Chinese former badminton player. Career Noted for her consistency, anticipation, forecourt prowess, and sporting smile, Gao is one of the most successful doubles players in the history of women's badminton. Her four Olympic badminton medals are the most of any player. She has won titles at almost every top tier tournament in the world.
