2006 Auburn Tigers Football
The 2006 Auburn Tigers football team represented Auburn University in the 2006 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Head coach Tommy Tuberville served his eighth season at Auburn, the third longest tenure among current SEC head coaches that year. Offensive coordinator Al Borges returned for his third season to direct the offense and was joined by first-year defensive coordinator Will Muschamp who came from the Miami Dolphins. Auburn played its eight-game home schedule within the friendly confines of Jordan–Hare Stadium, the ninth largest on-campus stadium in the NCAA seating 87,451. Tommy Tuberville
Thomas Hawley Tuberville ( ; born September 18, 1954) is an American retired college football coach and politician serving as the junior United States senator from Alabama since 2021. Before entering politics, Tuberville was the head football coach at Auburn University from 1999 to 2008. He was also the head football coach at the University of Mississippi from 1995 to 1998, Texas Tech University from 2010 to 2012, and the University of Cincinnati from 2013 to 2016. Tuberville received the 2004 Walter Camp and Bear Bryant Coach of the Year awards after Auburn's 13–0 season, in which Auburn won the Southeastern Conference title and the Sugar Bowl, but was left out of the BCS National Championship Game. 2006 Georgia Bulldogs Football Team
The 2006 Georgia Bulldogs football team completed the season with a 9–4 record. The Bulldogs had an SEC record of 4–4. Despite losses to unranked Kentucky and Vanderbilt, Georgia salvaged its season by beating two ranked teams in the last two games of the season: #5 Auburn and #15 Georgia Tech. A victory over #14 Virginia Tech in the 2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl gave the Georgia Bulldogs three consecutive victories over top 25 teams. 2006 Washington State Cougars Football Team
The 2006 Washington State Cougars football team represented Washington State University in the 2006 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was led by fourth-year head coach Bill Doba and played its home games on campus at Martin Stadium in Pullman, with one at Qwest Field in Seattle. The Cougars were 6–6 overall and 4–5 in the Pacific-10 Conference, tied for fifth. Ranked 25th in the AP Poll at the end of October, WSU lost its final three games. WSU's popular mascot, "Butch T. Kenny Irons (born September 15, 1983) is a former American football running back. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Brandon Cox
Brandon Cox (born October 31, 1983) is a former American football quarterback, who played collegiately for Auburn University. As Auburn's starting quarterback from 2005 to 2007 he guided the Tigers to a 29–9 record and was a member of the winningest senior class in Auburn history, winning 50 games during their time on the Plains. Cox attended Hewitt-Trussville High School, the same school as Jay Barker, former quarterback for rival Alabama. He was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis in his 10th grade year in high school, but fought the disease and continued to play football. Cox, a left-hander, was recruited to Auburn in 2003 but redshirted his freshman year.
