2006 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 2006 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 120th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament, since its establishment in 1887. The draw for the provincial fixtures took place on 12 November 2005. The championship began on 14 May 2006 and ended on 3 September 2006 Cork entered the championship as defending champions. On 3 September 2006, Kilkenny won the championship after a 1–16 to 1–13 defeat of Cork in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park. This was their 29th All-Ireland title overall and their first title since 2003. Kilkenny's Henry Shefflin was the championship's top scorer with 2-47. 2003 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 2003 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Guinness All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, Hurling Championship) was the 117th since its establishment in 1887. The first matches of the season were played in May 2003, and the championship ended on 14 September 2003. Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny went into the 2003 championship as defending champions, having won their twenty-seventh All-Ireland title the previous year. The championship culminated with the All-Ireland final, held at Croke Park, Dublin. The match was contested by Kilkenny and Cork GAA, Cork. It was their first meeting in the final since 1999. Anthony Daly (hurler)
Anthony Daly (born 22 October 1969) is an Irish former hurler who played as a left wing-back for the Clare senior hurling team. Born in Clarecastle, County Clare, Daly first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Flannan's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Clare minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1989–90 National League. Daly subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won two All-Ireland medals and three Munster medals. He captained the team to the All-Ireland title in 1995 and 1997. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Daly won two Railway Cup medals. At club level he is a one-time Munster medallist with Clarecastle. 1998 National Hurling League
The 1998 National Hurling League (known as the Church & General National Hurling League) was the 66th season of the National Hurling League. Division 1 The league saw a major restructuring of the usual four divisions of eight teams. Division 1 was split into Group 1A and Group 1B with each group consisting of six teams. The top two teams in each group qualified for the knock-out stage. Limerick came into the season as defending champions of the 1997 season. Antrim, Cork, Dublin and Waterford all entered Division 1 as part of the restructuring. On 17 May 1998, Cork won the title after a 2-14 to 0-13 win over Waterford in the final. John Allen (hurling Manager)
John Allen (born 1955) is an Irish former hurler and Gaelic footballer who played as a forward in both codes for the Cork senior teams. A dual player at the highest level, Allen spent three season with the Cork senior hurling team. During that time he won one All-Ireland winners' medal and one Munster winners' medal. Allen also spent five seasons with the Cork senior football team, during which time he won one Munster winners' medal and one National Football League winners' medal. At club level Allen is a dual All-Ireland medalist with St Finbarr's, while he also collected several provincial and club championship winners' medals in both codes. In retirement from playing Allen turned his hand to coaching and team management. A successful few years as masseuse and selector with the Cork senior hurling team led to the beginning of a two-year tenure as team manager. Christy Ring Cup
The Christy Ring Cup () is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Originally introduced as a second-tier competition, it is currently the third tier overall in the inter-county hurling championship system. Each year, the champions of the Christy Ring Cup are promoted to the Joe McDonagh Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Nicky Rackard Cup. Kildare are the 2022 title-holders. The competition is named in honour of Christy Ring, a legendary player from Cork. The Christy Ring Cup, which was introduced in 2005, replaced the All-Ireland B Hurling Championship (1974-2004).
