2005–06 Stoke City F.C. Season
The 2005–06 Football League, 2005–06 season was Stoke City F.C., Stoke City's 99th season in the Football League, the 39th in the English football league system, second tier and second in the Football League Championship, Championship. In June 2005 Tony Pulis was sacked by Stoke's Icelandic board and Dutch manager Johan Boskamp was appointed. He went about changing Stoke's style of play to a more European passing style which also meant a decent number of foreign players were signed by the club. The change in style had mixed success whilst Stoke did play good attacking football the defensive qualities by Pulis's side went missing and Stoke suffered some poor defeats particularly at home. Stoke were far too inconsistent to be anything other than a mid-table side and they finished in 13th position. Gerry Taggart
Gerald Taggart (born 18 October 1970) is a Northern Irish former professional footballer. He played for Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers, Leicester City, Manchester City and Stoke City as well as the Northern Ireland national team. A former defender, Taggart began his career as a trainee with Manchester City in 1989 but joined Barnsley in 1990 after being unable to break into the first team at Maine Road. He soon became a popular player with the "Tykes" supporters due to his passionate and committed performances. After spending five years with Barnsley making 249 appearances he joined Bolton Wanderers where he helped them to win the Division One title in 1996–97. Luke Harry Chadwick (born 18 November 1980) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Chadwick began his career at Manchester United where he made 25 Premier League appearances in four seasons. While at Old Trafford he spent time out on loan at Reading and Burnley before joining West Ham United on a permanent basis in the summer of 2004. Peter Sweeney
Peter Henry Sweeney (born 25 September 1984) is a Scottish football manager, coach and former professional player. Sweeney played as a midfielder and began his career at Millwall where he progressed through their youth team and broke into the first team. He played in the 2004 FA Cup Final were Millwall lost 3–0 to Manchester United. He joined Stoke City in the summer of 2005 for a fee of £250,000 but his start at Stoke was hampered by injuries. Mamady Sidibé (born 18 December 1979) is a Malian former professional footballer who played as a forward. Sidibé moved from his native Mali to France when he was two years old. After playing football for a number of lower French league sides he joined Swansea City in 2001. He spent a single season at the Welsh club before signing for Gillingham. After three and a half years in Kent Sidibé rejected an offer of a new contract and joined Stoke City in July 2005 on a free transfer. He went on to become a key member of Tony Pulis's first team and helped the club gain promotion to the Premier League in 2008. Gabriel N'Galula Mbuyi (born 1 June 1982), sometimes referred to as Junior, is a former Belgian footballer. Career Junior began his career at Anderlecht where he showed promise in his 28 games, but a long injury saw him lose his place to Yves Vanderhaeghe and Besnik Hasi. In the 2004–05 season, he was loaned to Mons, where he played 15 times as Mons suffered relegation to the Second Division at the end of the season. Hannes Þorsteinn Sigurðsson (born 10 April 1983) is an Icelandic football manager and former player who played as a forward. He is the manager of German club SV Wacker Burghausen. Playing career Hannes started his professional career with FH Hafnarfjordur in 2000, scoring on his debut and scoring one goal in eleven matches in 2001. He moved to Norway to play for Viking FK in 2002, and although he came on as a substitute to score twice on his debut, he spent the best part of his first three seasons in Norway on the substitutes' bench.
