2005–06 Perth Glory FC Season
The 2005–06 Perth Glory FC season was the club's 9th season since its establishment in 1996. The club competed in the A-League for the 1st time. Review In 2005, it was announced that former Liverpool and England star Steve McMahon would be appointed as coach. The new season saw a complete overhaul of the playing squad, with Simon Colosimo and former Sunderland and Leeds striker Brian Deane as key signings. Other notable signings included future young stars Nick Ward and Billy Celeski. Early results in friendlies against local opposition were not great, but Perth became the first team to defeat Sydney FC, winning 1–0 in the semi-final of the 2005–06 Pre-season Cup before losing in the final 0–1 to the Central Coast Mariners. Perth Glory FC
Perth Glory Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in Perth, Western Australia. It competes in the country's premier men's competition, A-League Men, under licence from Australian Professional Leagues. Founded in 1995, Perth Glory is one of three A-League clubs to survive from the now-defunct National Soccer League (NSL), playing their debut match in this competition in October 1996 for the 1996–97 season. Perth established itself as a major side within Australian soccer in the final seasons of this league, with managers Bernd Stange and Mich d'Avray leading the club to three league Premierships and two Championships from four grand final appearances within a five-season period. Matt Horsley
Matt Horsley (born 9 June 1972 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian retired footballer. Club career He last played as a right full back for the Australian A-League club Perth Glory in 2005, which he joined in 2001. Horsley had previously captained the Wollongong Wolves, with whom he played from 1990 to 2001. Horsley led the Wolves to victory over Perth in the 2000 NSL Grand Final via a penalty shoot-out, despite missing his penalty shot. In Wollongong's 2001 Grand Final victory over South Melbourne he was awarded the Joe Marston Medal for best onfield. After winning a league titled with Perth Glory in 2003 (their first), he was injured in the final NSL season and missed the 2004 NSL title victory. Jason Petkovic
Jason Petkovic (born 7 December 1972 in Perth, Western Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player. He is the brother of Michael Petkovic. Club career He played as a goalkeeper for the Australian A-League club Perth Glory where he has won two championships with them in 2003 and 2004. Petkovic has also had trials with Southampton F.C. and Norway's Rosenborg BK before joining NSL outfit Adelaide City in 1993. A broken leg sustained during a match against the Central Coast Mariners has ended his A-League 2006-07 season and possibly his career. However, in Round 19 of the A-League 2007-08 season he made a return to Perth against the Central Coast Mariners which ended in a 1-1 draw showing good signs of his recovery. Stephen Joseph McMahon (born 31 July 1984) is an English former footballer who played as a defender. Career McMahon started his career at Blackpool making his debut in 2002 whilst his father Steve McMahon was manager. In 2004 Blackpool won the Football League Trophy and McMahon played as a substitute in the final. In September 2004, he joined Kidderminster Harriers on loan where he made six appearances in all competitions before returning to Blackpool. Neil Teggart
Neil Teggart (born 16 September 1984 in Downpatrick) is a Northern Irish footballer. He was a Northern Ireland under-21 international, picking up two caps. Career He had been a very promising prospect, coming through the youth system at Sunderland, but after loan spells at Darlington and Scunthorpe United, he was released without breaking into the first team squad. Billy Celeski
Blagoja "Billy" Celeski (born 14 July 1985) is a retired Macedonian-born Australian footballer. He last played as a midfielder for Ventforet Kofu in the J1 League in 2016. Club career Celeski signed for Perth Glory for the 2005–06 A-League season from Bullen Zebras playing 18 times and won the club's media award, but was released at the end of the season.
