2005–06 PBA Season
The 2005–06 PBA season was the 31st season of the Philippine Basketball Association. It began on October 2, 2005 and ended on July 21, 2006. The season had two conferences played, the import-laiden 2005–06 San Mig Coffee Fiesta Conference and the season-ending 2006 Gran Matador Brandy Philippine Cup. Opening ceremonies The muses for the participating teams are as follows: 2005–06 Fiesta Conference Red Bull Barako won the 2005–06 Fiesta Conference defeating the Purefoods Chunkee Giants in six games. The Air21 Express defeated Barangay Ginebra Kings to capture third place in a one-game playoff. Enrico Villanueva of Red Bull won the Best Player of the Conference honors while Purefoods' import Marquin Chandler won the Best Import Award. The league introduced a Give Me 5 Promo, in which tickets for Upper Box B and General Admission seats would cost only five pesos. PBA On ABC
''The PBA on ABC'' (later renamed as ''The PBA on TV5'') was a branding for presentation of Philippine Basketball Association games by the Associated Broadcasting Company. ''The PBA on ABC'' premiered on February 22, 2004, replacing the previous broadcaster of the games, National Broadcasting Network and Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation (PBA on NBN/IBC). History Due to poor performance and disappointing ratings, the PBA disbanded a broadcasting consortium between the National Broadcasting Network and the Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation after the 2003 season, and took bids on a new broadcast contract for the league. In January 2004, the PBA began a contract with the Associated Broadcasting Company to broadcast PBA games for one year, beating bids from Solar Sports and a group led by former Vintage Television owner Bobong Velez. Raquel Denise "Kelly" Galvez Misa-Fernandez (born August 28, 1981) is a Filipina model and TV host. Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Award
The Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player (MVP) is an annual Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) award given since the start of the league in 1975 to the best performing player of the season. The award is decided using criteria introduced since the 2011–12 season, which include accumulated statistical points, votes from media, players and the league's Commissioner's Office. The current holder of the award is Scottie Thompson. The season MVP is for the ''whole'' season, which has two to three conferences, including the regular season, the playoffs and the Finals, while there is a Best Player of the Conference award for each conference, and a Best Import award for conferences where imports are allowed to play. Danny Seigle
Daniel Charles Seigle (born June 14, 1976) is a Filipino-American basketball coach and retired player. He is the head coach of the De La Salle Green Archers men's basketball team and a team consultant for the San Miguel Alab Pilipinas of the ASEAN Basketball League. He last played for the TNT KaTropa of the Philippine Basketball Association. He won the 1999 PBA Rookie of the Year and led San Miguel to six championships (out of a total of eight) during his career. He is also a two-time member of the Philippine national basketball team. Amateur career Seigle starred for his high school basketball team, leading them to winning 59 consecutive games and a state title. Asi Taulava
Pauliasi Taulava (born March 2, 1973) is a Tongan-born Filipino professional basketball player for the NLEX Road Warriors of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He is the oldest active player in the league. Standing 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) tall and weighing 245 pounds (111 kg), Taulava is considered by many to be one of the greatest and most dominant Filipino basketball players to ever play the center position in the PBA. Throughout his 21-year career, Taulava has used his size and strength to overpower opponents for points and rebounds. He is also a many-time member of the Philippine national team in international competitions. The 2005 PBA All-Star Weekend was the annual all-star weekend of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)'s 2005–06 season. This was the first all-star game for the 2005–06 season, as the league is adjusting its season calendar. The events were held at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena in Laoag, Ilocos Norte.
