2005–06 Omani League
The 2005–06 Omani League was the 30th edition of the top football league in Oman. It began on 9 November 2005 and finished on 19 May 2006. Dhofar S.C.S.C. were the defending champions, having won the previous 2004–05 Omani League season. On Friday, 19 May 2006, Muscat Club won 4-3 at home in their final league match against Dhofar S.C.S.C. and emerged as the champions of the 2005–06 Omani League with a total of 45 points. Teams This season the league had decreased from 13 to 12 teams. Al-Ahli Club, Al-Ittihad Club and Al-Khaboura SC were relegated to the Second Division League after finishing in the relegation zone in the 2004–05 season. The three relegated teams were replaced by Second Division League teams Al-Suwaiq Club and Mjees SC. Omani League
The Oman Professional League ( ar, دوري المحترفين عمان; known as the ''Omantel Professional League'' for sponsorship reasons), previously known as the Omantel Elite League, is the top division of the Oman Football Association, and was officially created in 1976. Currently the most successful team in the league is Dhofar with a total of eleven titles to their name. Evolution to a professional league In 2010, during the annual draw for the Sultan Qaboos Cup, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman, granted the OFA an annual 2.6 million rial (approximately 6.7 million dollars) till the year 2015 to further boost the development of the league. The move was made to nurture Oman's football youth, and create higher hopes of Oman qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Al-Ittihad Club (Salalah)
Al-Ittihad Club ( ar, نادي الاتحاد) is an Omani sports club based in Salalah, Oman. The club is currently playing in Oman First Division League, first division of Oman Football Association. Their home ground is Al-Saada Stadium, but they also recognize the older Salalah Sports Complex as their home ground. Both stadiums are government owned, but they also own their own personal stadium and sports equipment, as well as their own training facilities. Bahla
Bahla ( ar, بهلا) is a town, located 40 km away from Nizwa, and about 200 km from Oman's capital Muscat which lies in the Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman. It is notable as the home of one of the oldest fortresses in the country, the 13th century Bahla Fort which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fortress and the town are enclosed by extensive remnants of a 12-km long fortified wall. Most buildings are constructed of traditional mud brick, many of them are hundreds of years old. A short distance beyond Bahla lies the Castle of Jabreen, a massive three-story structure built during Al Ya'ruba dynasty in the mid of 17th century. Al Suwaiq ( ar, السويق) is a coastal wilayah (province) in the region of Al Bāţinah, in northeastern Oman. It is located at around . Al-Seeb, As Seeb or As Sib ( ar, السيب) is a coastal fishing city, located several kilometres northwest of Muscat, in northeastern Oman. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 470,878. The Al-Saada Stadium ( ar, أستاد السعادة), also known as Al-Saada Sports Complex ( ar, مجمع السعادة الرياضي) is a government owned multi-use stadium in the Al-Saada district of Salalah, Oman. The stadium is used only for football matches and is the home stadium of Salalah-based clubs Dhofar, and Al-Nasr. The stadium has originally had a capacity of an estimated 12,000 people, but due to renovation in 2010 the stadium became an all-seater decreasing the maximum capacity to an estimated 8-9,000 spectators. Although being opened officially in 2009, the stadium ever since has been undergoing renovation, and because of protest from the football community in the city because of the unexpected outcome, the stadium has undergone a plan to eventually house close to 20,000 spectators. Salalah
Salalah ( ar, صَلَالَة, Ṣalālah) is the capital and largest city of the southern Omani governorate of Dhofar. Its population in 2009 was about 197,169.
