Newcastle United Jets Football Club, commonly known as Newcastle Jets, is an Australian professional soccer club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. It competes in the country's premier competition, the A-League, under licence from The Australian Professional Leagues (APL). formerly under licence by Football Australia. The club was formed in 2000 when it joined the National Soccer League (NSL) and was one of only three former NSL clubs to join in the formation of the A-League. Newcastle Jets have won one A-League championship, after defeating rivals Central Coast Mariners 1–0 in the 2008 A-League Grand Final. In 2009, Newcastle competed in the AFC Champions League for the first time, reaching the Round of 16. In May 2015, FFA revoked Newcastle's licence after owner Nathan Tinkler placed the club into voluntary administration. Andrew James Durante (born 3 May 1982 in Sydney, New South Wales) is a retired New Zealand international footballer. He is currently the Player Welfare and Development Manager at Western United while also working as a Senior Academy Assistant Coach at the club. Born in Sydney, Australia, Durante played youth football with Sydney Olympic before making his senior debut at the club. He also played for Parramatta Power before moving to Singapore to play for Balestier Khalsa. After returning to Australia to play for Sydney United, Durante joined Newcastle Jets in the newly formed A-League. Durante joined Wellington Phoenix in 2008 and was given the captaincy and is currently the player with the most appearances for the club. Brett Studman (born 19 April 1985 in Kempsey, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian footballer who plays for APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC. Club career Studman was a part of the AIS before signing for Sydney Olympic. He was signed by A-League club Newcastle United Jets for the first season of the competition but was released in 2006 before he moved to NSW state league club Bankstown City Lions. In 2010, he signed a contract with North Queensland Fury. Franco Parisi (born 3 May 1983) is an Australian football manager and former player. He is currently the Head Coach for NPL NSW club APIA Leichhardt. Regarded as a club legend, Parisi made over 300 appearances during his time as a player for APIA. Stuart Musialik (born 29 March 1985 in Newcastle, Australia) is an Australian professional footballer. Club career Born and raised in Newcastle, he played junior football for Adamstown Rosebuds and was selected to play in representative sides such as Northern NSW at a young age. Jobe Wheelhouse (born 14 April 1985 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays for Lambton Jaffas. Club career Wheelhouse was unavailable for the majority of the 2006-07 A-League season and made his return against Perth Glory in Round 1 of the 2007–08 season. Guy Bates (born 31 October 1985) is an English footballer who plays as a forward for West Allotment Celtic. Career Newcastle United Bates joined his hometown club Newcastle United at the age of 8 in 1993. He worked his way through the ranks, setting several junior goalscoring records during that time and playing alongside good friend and fellow academy graduate Steven Taylor.
