Melbourne Victory were considered to be one of the future "powerhouse" football clubs in Australia prior to the 2005/06 A-League season, with Socceroos Kevin Muscat and Archie Thompson returning to Melbourne from successful club careers in Europe. It was widely believed that they would be contenders for the A-League championship. However, the team ended up finishing a disappointing seventh and missed out on the finals. Melbourne Victory Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in Melbourne, Victoria. Competing in the country's premier men's competition, the A-League Men, under licence from Australian Professional Leagues (APL), Victory entered the competition in the inaugural season as the only Victorian-based club in the newly revamped domestic Australian league. Steve Pantelidis (born 17 August 1983) is a former Australian football (soccer) player who plays as a central defender. Club career Early career Pantelidis was reportedly a keen football player who showed plenty of potential competing against other schools. After excelling in the state championships, representing his home state Victoria, Pantelidis was selected to represent the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). After completing his apprenticeship he joined Altona East Phoenix in the Victorian premier league. In his second year at the club he was voted player of the year. Ricky Diaco
Ricky Diaco (born 6 June 1982) is an Australian football (soccer), footballer who currently plays for South Springvale SC, South Springvale. Biography An important turning point for Diaco's career was winning the VPL (Victorian Premier League) Gold Medal award for best player in the league in 2004 whilst at Frankston Pines (tying with Doug Mladenović of Altona Magic). Chris Tadrosse
Chris Tadrosse (born 10 September 1985) is an Australian footballer who plays for Bonnyrigg White Eagles. Club career He was part of Melbourne Victory's squad in the A-League, but was allowed to leave late in the club's inaugural year; having failed to make a real impact in his limited appearances and Melbourne having to rebuild after an unsuccessful season. The first stop on his German adventure was with Oberliga Nordrhein league club KFC Uerdingen 05. After a short stay he moved to Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach. Richard Kitzbichler
Richard Kitzbichler (born 12 January 1974) is an Austrian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Kitzbichler was born in Wörgl, Tyrol. He started his career in 1992 with FC Wacker Innsbruck in the Austrian Bundesliga. In 1997, he signed a contract with SV Austria Salzburg and stayed there until 2002. Simon Storey
Simon Storey (born 5 June 1982) is an Australian footballer. Club career Storey began his senior career at Springvale City in State League 1 for one season at the age of 16 whilst on scholarship with the Victorian Institute of Sport for 3 years. Adrian Leijer
Adrian Leijer (born 25 March 1986) is an Australian footballer who plays as a centre back. Leijer played on one occasion for Australia and made over 100 appearances for Melbourne Victory in the A-League. Club career Early years Leijer was born, and largely grew up in, the New South Wales town of Dubbo to a family of Dutch and English heritage. Carl Recchia
Carl Recchia (born 13 December 1984) is an Australian Football (soccer), footballer. Biography Recchia played as a Midfielder, central midfielder for the Melbourne Victory in the inaugural season of the Hyundai A-League. He was let go at the end of the season, and returned to the Victorian Premier League with Fawkner Blues. Vince Lia
Vince Lia (born 18 March 1985) is an Australian professional football (soccer) player who plays for Altona Magic in the National Premier Leagues Victoria. Born in Shepparton, Lia played youth football in Victoria before making his senior debut with South Melbourne in the National Soccer League. He spent one season with Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues in 2005 before joining Melbourne Victory in 2005 to play in the newly-formed A-League.
