The 2005–06 Hong Kong First Division League season was the 94th since its establishment. However, both teams were retained in the top flight next season via HKFA exempted. Reason for retaining Hong Kong 08 is to give the team better preparation of 2008 Olympics Qualification games. South China was retained because the club promised to expand its next season's budget and sign new quality players. Hong Kong First Division League
The Hong Kong First Division League () is the second-highest division in the Hong Kong football league system. Established in 1908, it is the third oldest in Asia. The league was formerly the highest division in Hong Kong until the formation of the Hong Kong Premier League in 2014. Since 1908, a total of 29 clubs have been crowned champions of the Hong Kong football system. South China are the most successful club, having won 41 times since their first participation in 1941. Competition format Each team plays the other teams in the division twice, one home and one away game. The ticket profits go to the home team. If there are two matches in the same stadium on the day, the profits are shared between the two home teams. The top two teams in the league are offered promotion to the Premier League while the bottom two are relegated to the Hong Kong Second Division. Hong Kong Rangers Football Club (), often abbreviated to Rangers, currently known as Biu Chun Rangers due to sponsorship reasons, is a Hong Kong football club which currently competes in the Hong Kong Premier League. They have won the Hong Kong First Division once, the Senior Shield 4 times, and the Hong Kong FA Cup twice. Chan Yiu Lun
Chan Yiu Lun (; born July 20, 1982, in China) is a former Hong Kong professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Chan started his football career at Sing Tao. He saw Wei Kwan Lung as his idol because his pace and shooting abilities impressed him greatly. Wei Kwan Lung was later banned from football for match-fixing, but he still encouraged Chan to play and not to follow in his footsteps. Lee Kin Wo
Lee Kin Wo (, born 20 October 1967 in Hong Kong) is a former Hong Kong professional footballer. Lee won the Hong Kong Footballer of the Year award three times during his career. He holds an AFC "A" License. Club career Lee Kin Wo made his debut in Hong Kong First Division League on 13 October 1985 when he was 18 years old. He is most memorable for participating the friendly match South China Athletic Association (Lee is loaned from Eastern for that match, along with Dale Tempest) versus São Paulo, the Brazilian team with national representatives Cafu, Leonardo Araújo and Zetti at that time. Julius Akosah
Julius Pongla Akosah ( ''Akosah'', born ) is a former Cameroon-born Hong Kong professional footballer who currently plays as an amateur for Hong Kong Second Division club Fu Moon. His position was striker. He was once called up by Cameroon in 2006. Hong Kong football fans commonly use Agumon as a nickname for him because of his transcriptional name. Au Wai Lun (; born 14 August 1971, in Hong Kong) is a former Hong Kong professional football player. He is considered one of the best strikers in Hong Kong. Playing career Au made his debut in Hong Kong First Division League for Tin Tin on 20 December 1988, against Happy Valley. He was 17 years old at the time and the final result of the match 0–2. Au was the leading goal scorer of the Hong Kong national football team, but retired from international football after an exhibition match with Manchester United on 23 July 2005. Keith "Kayamba" Gumbs (born 11 September 1972 in St. Kitts, Saint Kitts and Nevis) is a retired St. Kitts and Nevis international football player. Hong Kong Football Association League Cup () is an annual football competition contested by clubs in the top-tier Hong Kong domestic football league (currently Hong Kong Premier League). The cup was relaunched for the 2014–15 season after being discontinued in the 2012–13 season. Format *All teams in Hong Kong First Division League (until 2013–2014 season) / Hong Kong Premier League (starting from 2014 to 2015 season) are divided in the 2 groups (Group A & B) in first round stage. Each team plays against all other teams in the group once.
