2005 World Championships In Artistic Gymnastics
The 38th World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia from 21 to 27 November 2005. Only the all-around and event finals were contested at this meet. There was no team competition; nations were permitted to bring up to six Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) and up to four Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) athletes to compete. Rod Laver Arena
Rod Laver Arena is a multipurpose arena located within Melbourne Park, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The arena is the main venue for the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the calendar year. History Replacing the aging Kooyong Stadium, construction on the arena began in 1985. It was undertaken by Civil & Civic was completed in 1987 at a cost of AU$94 million. It opened on 11 January 1988 for the 1988 Australian Open. Matteo Morandi (born 8 October 1981) is an Italian artistic gymnast. He was born in Vimercate. Morandi is married and has a daughter. He is a specialist at the rings. Olympic Games He competed at the 2004 games taking 5th place at the Rings, the 2008 games taking 6th place at the Rings, and the 2012 games, in which he won the bronze medal in the Still Rings final. After the 2012 Summer Olympics he said that he will continue until the next Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and hopes to win another medal. Oksana Aleksandrovna Chusovitina (russian: Оксана Александровна Чусовитина; born 19 June 1975) is an eight-time Olympic gymnast who has competed for the Soviet Union, Uzbekistan, and Germany. Chusovitina's career as an elite gymnast has spanned more than a quarter century. She won the USSR Junior Nationals in 1988 and began competing at the international level in 1989, before many of her current rivals were even born. Cheng Fei (; born May 29, 1988) is a retired Chinese artistic gymnast. She is a three-time World Champion on the vault (2005–2007) and 2006 World Champion on floor exercise. She was a member of the gold medal-winning Chinese teams for the 2006 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Aarhus, Denmark and 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Monette Russo
Monette Simone Russo (born 4 August 1988 in Lilydale, Victoria) is an Australian former artistic gymnast. She made history by becoming the first Australian gymnast ever to win an individual world championship medal at the 2005 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne, Australia, when she came third in the all-around competition and also was awarded the prestigious Longines Prize for Elegance. She also competed in three apparatus finals, finishing seventh on bars and fifth on beam and floor. Chellsie Marie Memmel (born June 23, 1988) is an American artistic gymnast. Aljaž Pegan (born 2 June 1974) is a Slovenian gymnast. Pegan is a world and European champion on the horizontal bar, where he has a skill named after him. He also has an eponymous skill on the parallel bars.
