Russian First Division
The Russian First League (russian: Первая лига, Pervaya liga), formerly called Russian First Division (russian: Первый дивизион) and Russian Football National League (FNL) (russian: Первенство Футбольной Национальной Лиги, Pervenstvo Futbol'noy Natsional'noy Ligi) is the second level of the Russian football league system. The Russian Professional Football League (PFL) used to run the division. Since 2011, it has been managed by the Football National League. The league consists of 18 clubs. After each season the two top clubs are promoted to the Premier League, and the bottom four clubs are relegated to the Russian Professional Football League. Third and fourth team play in home-and-away promotion play-offs against the 13th and 14th Premier League teams. The 2006 Russian Premier League was the 55th season of the premier football competition in Russia since the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the 5th under the current Russian Premier League name. The season started on 17 March 2006 and ended on 26 November 2006. Defending champions CSKA Moscow claimed their second successive title on 18 November 2006 with an away win over Luch-Energiya Vladivostok. Spartak Moscow finished runners-up, level on points with CSKA but ranked behind due to fewer wins (see Tie-breaking criteria below). Lokomotiv Moscow finished third. PFC Sokol (russian: ПФК "Сокол") is a Russian association football club based in Saratov. In 2001 and 2002, Sokol played in the Russian Premier League. Currently the club plays in the third-level FNL 2. History The club was founded as ''Dynamo''. It was known by this name until 1930 and in 1946–1953. Other club's names include ''Lokomotiv'' (1956–1960), ''Energiya'' (1954–1955), ''Sokol'' (1961–1994 and 1998–2005), and ''Sokol-PZD'' (1995–1997). "Sokol" is Russian for " falcon". FC Dynamo Saint Petersburg is a Russian football club from Saint Petersburg, in Northwest Russia. Founded in 1922, the club was one of the oldest in the city. FC Metallurg Lipetsk (russian: Футбольный клуб «Металлург» Липецк) is an association football club in Lipetsk, Russia, formed in 1957. Their home, Metallurg Stadium, is located on Pervomayskaya Street, 59, in Lipetsk. History Their best result came in 1997 when they came 2nd in the Russian First Division. FC Amur Blagoveshchensk (russian: ФК «Амур-2010» Благовещенск ) was a Russian football club from Blagoveshchensk, founded in 1960 and dissolved in 2010. The club played on the second-highest level (Soviet First League and Russian First Division) in 1960-1962, 1992 and 2005. Between 1997-2001 the team was called FC Amur-Energiya. FC Metallurg-Kuzbass Novokuznetsk
FC Novokuznetsk (Russian: ФК Новокузнецк) is a Russian football club from Novokuznetsk. Recent history MKN were relegated to the Russian Second Division after an 18th-place finish in 2005, and only finished 2nd in the "East" region, thus keeping them down another season. However, Lada Togliatti and Dinamo Makhachkala were denied licences for the First Division and thus also relegated. This, alongside the bankruptcy of Angusht Nazran, pushed Metallurg up alongside other second-place finishers SKA Rostov-na-Donu and Mordovia Saransk.
