2005 IIHF European Champions Cup
The 2005 IIHF European Champions Cup was the first edition of IIHF European Champions Cup. It was held in Saint Petersburg at the Ice Palace arena, from January 13 to January 16. The champions of 2004 of the six strongest hockey nations of Europe participate: Avangard Omsk (RUS), HV71 (SWE), HC Dukla Trenčín (SVK), Kärpät (FIN), HC Hame Zlín (CZE) and Frankfurt Lions (GER). Avangard Omsk
Hockey Club Avangard (russian: ХК Авангард, links=no, Vanguard), also known as Avangard Omsk, is a Russian professional ice hockey team from Omsk. It is a member of the Chernyshev Division in the Eastern Conference of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Franchise history Early years of Omsk hockey (1950–1972) The first amateur ice hockey teams in Omsk began to appear in 1950, formed by local bandy players. One of them was a hockey section of the Omsk Spartak sports society. Spartak Omsk was chosen to be the first Omsk hockey team in the 1950–51 RSFSR championship. In the 1955–56 season, the team had a chance to represent the city in the Soviet Championship, joining its then-second level Class B league and recruiting the best hockey players from Omsk. Chad Bassen
Chad Bassen (born April 25, 1983) is a Canadian-German professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing with EHC Freiburg of the DEL2. Bassen holds a Canadian and a German passport, part of his family come from Germany. His uncle Mark Bassen also played professionally. Playing career Bassen played in the WHL for the Regina Pats, Vancouver Giants, Medicine Hat Tigers and Everett Silvertips before taking his game overseas. In 2004, he signed his first contract in Germany, joining the Frankfurt Lions of the top-flight Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He left the Lions after the 2006–07 season and moved to the Straubing Tigers, where he spent the following three years. He then played for the Hamburg Freezers during the 2010–11 DEL season. Andrei Nikolaevich Kovalenko (russian: Андрей Николаевич Коваленко; born June 7, 1970) is a Russian former professional ice hockey forward. He played in the National Hockey League with the Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and the Boston Bruins. Eero Somervuori (born February 7, 1979) is a Finnish people, Finnish former professional ice hockey forward. He was drafted 170th overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, but played mainly in the Finnish Liiga and Sweden, Swedish Swedish Hockey League, Elitserien. Lasse Kukkonen
Lasse Juhani Kukkonen (born 18 September 1981) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey defenceman. He last played for Oulun Kärpät of the Finnish Liiga. Earlier in his career, he had a four-year stint in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers. After his career in ice hockey, Kukkonen is working as a lecturer and trainer specialising in mental coaching and leadership. Jari Viuhkola (born 27 February 1980) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey centre. He represented Kärpät in the Finnish SM-liiga. Josef Sami Boumedienne (born 12 January 1978) is a Swedish-Finnish former professional hockey defenceman and hockey scout.
