The 2005 Hungaroring GP2 Series round was a GP2 Series motor race held on 30 and 31 July 2005 at the Hungaroring in Mogyoród, Pest, Hungary. It was the eighth round of the 2005 GP2 Series season. Hungaroring
The Hungaroring is a motorsport racetrack in Mogyoród, Pest County, Hungary where the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix is held. In 1986, it became the location of the first Formula One Grand Prix behind the Iron Curtain. Bernie Ecclestone wanted a race in the USSR, but a Hungarian friend recommended Budapest. They wanted a street circuit similar to the Circuit de Monaco to be built in the Népliget – Budapest's largest park – but the government decided to build a new circuit just outside the city near a major highway. Construction works started on 1 October 1985. It was built in eight months, less time than any other Formula One circuit. The first race was held on 24 March 1986, in memory of János Drapál, the first Hungarian who won motorcycle Grand Prix races. GP2 Series
The GP2 Series was a form of open wheel motor racing introduced in 2005 following the discontinuation of the long-term Formula One feeder series, Formula 3000. The GP2 format was conceived by Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore, while Ecclestone also has the rights to the name GP1. The series was organized by Bruno Michel. In 2010, the GP3 Series class was launched, as a feeder class for the GP2 series. In 2017, the series was rebranded as the FIA Formula 2 Championship. Designed to make racing affordable for the teams and to make it a better training ground for life in Formula One, GP2 made it mandatory for all of the teams to use the same chassis, engine and tyre supplier so that true driver ability is reflected. Juan Cruz Álvarez (born November 20, 1985 in Arrecifes, Argentina) is a race car driving, driver. Career Álvarez was the World Series Lights champion in 2003, driving for the Meycom team. He moved up to the World Series by Nissan for 2004 World Series by Nissan season, 2004. In 2005 GP2 Series season, 2005 he drove in the inaugural GP2 Series season for Campos Racing, scoring 4.5 points overall. He was not retained for 2006, and did not race during this year. Borja García (racing Driver)
Borja García Menéndez (born 15 December 1982 in Valencia) is a Spanish racing driver. He last competed in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, having last driven for Alex Caffi Motorsport in a part-time effort in 2018. He was the 2004 Spanish Formula Three champion, and raced in the inaugural GP2 Series season. Career Garcia was born in Valencia. His career started in karting in 1993, where he stayed until 1999. He moved up to Spanish Formula Toyota in 2000, comfortably winning the title, before moving to Formula Nissan 2000 in 2001 with the Campos team, who now race in GP2 Series. He stayed in Nissan 2000 for 2002, driving for both the Esuela Lois and Venturini teams, whilst also racing some of the Spanish Formula Three season for the GTA team. Nicolas Lapierre
Nicolas Lapierre (born 2 April 1984) is a French professional racing driver. He raced with Toyota and with Alpine Racing in the past seasons of the FIA World Endurance Championship. He is a two-time winner of the 12 Hours of Sebring, with overall victories in 2011 and 2018, and scored four LMP2 class victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. David Price Racing (commonly referred to as DPR) is a British motor racing team, founded by David Price. The team competed in various forms of motorsport from their foundation in 1976 until 2008. The team was sold in April 2009, but continued racing in GP2 and GP2 Asia Series under the name David Price Racing until 2010. History The team initially ran small single-seater series in Britain from the late 1970s, including British Formula 3 and Aurora F1. Coloni Motorsport, also known as Scuderia Coloni, was an auto racing team from Italy. Formed by Enzo Coloni in 1983, the team participated in Formula Three between 1983 and 1986, before racing in Formula One as Enzo Coloni Racing Car Systems between and . iSport International was a British motor racing team that competed in the GP2 Series. The team was founded by Paul Jackson, Gavin Bickerton-Jones and Richard Selwin, former members of the Petrobras Junior Team in 2004, ahead of the inaugural GP2 season. Their factory is based in Carleton Rode near Norwich in the United Kingdom. iSport's most successful season in GP2 came in 2007, when they won the teams' title, with Timo Glock winning the drivers' championship. Scott Andrew Speed (born January 24, 1983) is an American race car driver who has competed in numerous disciplines, including open-wheel, stock car, and rallycross racing. In , Speed became the first American driver to race in Formula One since Michael Andretti in , when he made his début at the 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix for Scuderia Toro Rosso.
