2005 FIBA Africa Championship For Women
The 2005 FIBA Africa Championship for Women was the 17th FIBA Africa Championship for Women, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Nigeria from December 20 to 28, with the games played at the Indoor Sports Hall in Abuja. Nigeria defeated Senegal 64–57 in the final to win their first title with both teams securing a spot at the 2006 FIBA Women's World Cup. The AfroBasket Women (formerly FIBA Africa Championship for Women) is the women's basketball continental championship of Africa, played biennially under the auspices of FIBA, the world sports governing body, governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa, African zone thereof. Oluchi Mercy Okorie (born 28 August 1981 in Lagos) is a former Nigerian basketball player who played for First Bank B.C and the Nigerian national team. She represented Nigeria at the 2005, 2006 and 2007 FIBA Africa Championship. Sports career From 20 December to 28 December, at the Indoor Sports Hall in Abuja, Nigeria hosted the FIBA Africa Championship for Women in 2005. At the event, Oluchi represented Nigeria and won a gold medal. At the 2006 FIBA Africa Women's Clubs Champions Cup in which she participated, Oluchi won a bronze medal. Mfon Udoka
Mfon Sunday Udoka (born June 16, 1976) is a Nigerian-American former professional basketball player who is an assistant coach for the Nigeria women's national basketball team, the D'Tigress. Born in Portland, Oregon, Udoka graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School (1994) in Portland before attending DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois from 1994 to 1998. She is the older sister of coach and former NBA player Ime Udoka. 1998-2003 After leaving DePaul in 1998, Udoka signed with the Detroit Shock of the WNBA. With Detroit, she appeared in three games. Udoka left the U.S. following the 1998 season, moving to Portugal for the 1998–99 season.
