2005 Conference National Play-off Final
The 2005 Football Conference play-off Final took place on 14 May 2005 and was contested between Stevenage F.C., Stevenage Borough and Carlisle United F.C., Carlisle United. It was held at the Britannia Stadium, Stoke-on-Trent, Stoke and had an attendance of 13,422. Match Summary Carlisle had the first major chance when the ball fell to Derek Holmes and he turned and shot, but Alan Julian in the Stevenage goal saved comfortably. Stevenage's first chance came when they had a corner which they took quickly and Anthony Elding shot just wide from outside the area. The same corner routine had paid off in the semi-final as it had led to Dino Maamria's winning goal against Hereford. At the other end, Holmes flicked on a long ball for Glenn Murray who controlled the ball on his chest and shot in one movement from 14 yards out, but Julian again saved well. 2004–05 Football Conference
The 2004–05 season was the 26th season of the Football Conference, and the 1st season following its expansion from one division to three divisions. Overview This season saw the Conference expanded to three divisions with the addition of the Conference North and Conference South added to the existing (and renamed) Conference National. The North and South Divisions were filled by teams finishing 1st–13th in the Northern Premier League Premier Division and 2nd–13th in the Isthmian League Premier Division and Southern League Premier Division the previous season (the champions were all promoted to the Conference National), together with winners of play-offs between the 14–18th placed clubs in the Southern League Premier, 14th–20th in the Isthmian and Northern Premier League Premier, as well as the top clubs from the divisions immediately below. George Boyd (footballer)
George Jan Boyd (born 2 October 1985) is a former professional footballer. Initially deployed as a left winger in the early stages of his career, Boyd was used more frequently in an attacking midfield role as his career progressed. Boyd started his career in the youth academy at Charlton Athletic, before joining Stevenage Borough of the Football Conference in 2001. He made his first-team debut for Stevenage in 2002, aged 17, and spent five years there, scoring over thirty goals. He signed for League Two club Peterborough United for a fee of £260,000 in January 2007, and won successive promotions in the 2007–08 and 2008–09 seasons. Kevin Gray (footballer)
Kevin John Gray (born 7 January 1972) is an English former footballer, who played as a defender in the Football League for Mansfield Town, Huddersfield Town, Stockport County (on loan), Tranmere Rovers, Carlisle United and Chesterfield. Football career He started his career at Mansfield Town signing as a trainee in July 1990 and had a successful four-year period at Mansfield. In 1994 Gray joined Huddersfield Town at the newly built Galpharm Stadium and played there for eight years and played just under 300 games for Huddersfield and he played one game on loan at Stockport County in 2000. While at Huddersfield, Gray tackled Bradford City striker Gordon Watson in February 1997, the sliding tackle broke Watson's leg in two places and left his career in tatters. Graham Westley
Graham Neil Westley (born 4 March 1968) is an English former professional footballer and manager who was most recently manager of League Two club Stevenage. Westley's playing career, spent mostly as a striker in non-League football, was curtailed due to injury whilst playing for Kingstonian. It was at Kingstonian that he started his managerial career, at the age of 28, managing them for five months, before spending a year in charge of Enfield. In 1999, Westley became manager of Farnborough Town, guiding them to the Football Conference in 2002. He left Farnborough the following season, to become manager of Stevenage. He took the club to within one game of promotion to the Football League, but left the club in 2006 when his contract expired. Jon Nurse
Jonathan David Nurse (born 28 March 1981) is a Barbadian football coach and former professional footballer who is a first-team coach at Southern Football League club Metropolitan Police. Nurse began his career at Sutton United in 2003, spending a season with the club before signing for Stevenage Borough ahead of the 2004–05 season. During the season, he was loaned out to Conference South club Lewes, before returning to his parent club and being part of the team that narrowly missed out on promotion to the Football League. Simon Weatherstone
Simon Weatherstone (born 26 January 1980) is the 1st Team Coach at Newcastle United. A former English footballer. Weatherstone had a 15-year playing career and when he finished playing he studied for his coaching badges, where he attained his Pro License in 2020. During his coaching career, he coached at Burnley, serving as Head Coach of the U23 side. At the end of the 2013/14 season, Simon was offered the position of First Team Coach at AFC Bournemouth. The following season, AFC Bournemouth went on to win the EFL Championship, and he spent five years in the Premier League in the First Team Coach role. Rob Quinn
Robert John Quinn (born 8 November 1976) is a former professional footballer, and current youth team coach. He played as midfielder, predominantly in the centre, but also played at centre back. He represented the Republic of Ireland under-21s and Republic of Ireland B team. Career Crystal Palace Quinn began his career at Crystal Palace, where he came through their youth ranks. Whilst he was learning his trade in the Palace youth team, he was made captain and led out the team every week to win the Southeast Counties League. His hard work at youth level was recognised by Crystal Palace manager Dave Bassett, who promoted Quinn to the first team squad. Mark Westhead
Mark Westhead (born 19 July 1975) is an English professional footballer. He is currently the Youth Department goalkeeping coach with Blackpool and is also playing for Warrington Town. Career Playing career Westhead started his career as a 17-year-old goalkeeper at Bolton Wanderers after initially being spotted whilst playing for non-League side Blackpool Mechanics. During his four years there Bolton were promoted from the Second Division to the Premier League but the nearest Westhead got to any playing time was as an unused substitute in a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1994. Dino Maamria
Noureddine "Dino" Maamria (born 18 February 1974) is a Tunisian football manager and former player who played as a striker. He is the manager of League One club Burton Albion. Maamria started his playing career with AS Marsa of Tunisia. He left the club in 1994, and spent a season at CO Transports. He moved to England in 1996, and joined Burnley. Maamria subsequently signed for Glentoran of the IFA Premiership, spending the remainder of 1996–97 season with the club. Dannie Mark Bulman (born 24 January 1979) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He played in the English Football League with Wycombe Wanderers, Oxford United, Crawley Town and AFC Wimbledon. Ronnie Henry
Ronnie Stephen Henry (born 2 January 1984) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for Southern League Premier Central club Royston Town. Henry is also a youth academy coach for Stevenage. He is the first player to lift a competitive trophy at the new Wembley Stadium, as captain of Stevenage in May 2007. Henry is Stevenage's all-time record appearance holder. Henry started his career in the youth system at Tottenham Hotspur. During his time there, he was sent on loan to Southend United until the end of the 2002–03 season.
