The 2005 Paris Masters (also known as the ''BNP Paribas Masters'' for sponsorship reasons) was a men's tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts. It was the 33rd edition of the Paris Masters, and was part of the ATP Masters Series of the 2005 ATP Tour. It took place at the Palais omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris, France, from 31 October to 6 November 2005. Tomáš Berdych won the singles title. The singles line up included ATP No. 3, Wimbledon and Indianapolis runner-up, Cincinnati champion Andy Roddick, US Open quarterfinalist, Umag winner, Monte Carlo, Rome and Beijing finalist Guillermo Coria, and French Open semifinalist, St. Pölten winner Nikolay Davydenko. Ivan Ljubičić (; born 19 March 1979) is a Croatian former professional tennis player. He reached a career-high Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world No. 3 singles ranking on 1 May 2006. David Nalbandian
David Pablo Nalbandian (; born 1 January 1982) is an Argentine retired professional tennis player who played on the ATP Tour from 2000 until his retirement in 2013. He reached the highest ranking in singles of world No. 3 in March 2006. Nalbandian was runner-up in the singles event at the 2002 Wimbledon Championships. During his career, he won 11 singles titles, including the Tennis Masters Cup in 2005 and two Masters 1000 tournaments. Mariano Rubén Puerta (; born 19 September 1978) is an Argentine former professional tennis player. He reached a career-high ATP world No. 9 singles ranking in August 2005. His career highlight of reaching the final of the French Open in 2005 was marred by testing positive for the banned substance etilefrine in a drugs test directly after the French Open final, for which he received an eight-year doping ban. The 2005 French Open was the 109th edition of the tournament. On the men's side, Rafael Nadal, seeded fourth at his first French Open, was a strong favorite to win the singles title after winning the Monte Carlo and Rome Masters. Guillermo Coria, the defending finalist and 2005 runner-up to Nadal in both Monaco and Rome, called Nadal the best clay-court player in the world prior to the tournament. Nikolay Vladimirovich Davydenko ( rus, Никола́й Влади́мирович Давыде́нко ; born 2 June 1981) is a Ukrainian-born Russian former professional tennis player. Guillermo Coria
Guillermo Sebastián Coria (born 13 January 1982), nicknamed ''El Mago'' (''The Magician'' in Spanish), is an Argentine retired professional tennis player. He reached a career-high ATP world No. 3 singles ranking in May 2004. Coria achieved his best results on clay, where he won eight of his nine ATP singles titles, and during his prime years in 2003 and 2004 was considered "the world's best clay-court player."
