The Winter Gardens is a large entertainment complex in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, which includes a theatre, ballroom and conference facilities. Opened in 1878, it is a Grade II* listed building, operated by Blackpool Entertainment Company Limited on behalf of Blackpool Council, which purchased the property from Leisure Parcs Ltd as part of a £40 million deal in 2010. The Winter Gardens has hosted the annual conferences of British political parties and trade unions and its owners claim that every Prime Minister since World War II has addressed an audience at the venue. It has also hosted the Blackpool Dance Festival since its inception in 1920, and the World Matchplay darts tournament since 1994. Ronnie Baxter
Ronnie Baxter (born 5 February 1961) is an English former professional darts player who competed in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He used the nickname "The Rocket" for his matches. Baxter was known for his fast robotic throwing action. He currently resides in his hometown Blackpool. Baxter is widely regarded as one of the best players never to have won a major TV title. Alex Roy (darts Player)
Alexander Roy (born 4 September 1974) is an English former professional darts player who competed in events of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He used the nickname Ace of Herts for his matches and was formerly with Dave Holland Management. Roy's entrance music was "Burn in My Light" by Mercy Drive, which was the former theme of professional wrestler Randy Orton. In the early 2000s, Roy was inside the PDC's top 8 on the Order of Merit. Mark Walsh (darts Player)
Mark Walsh (born 2 February 1965) is a former English professional darts player who competed in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments. He reached No. 6 in the PDC Order of Merit. Walsh reached his first major televised final in 2005, when he was beaten by Phil Taylor in the UK Open. Early career Walsh made his televised debut at the 2002 World Matchplay but suffered a 10-0 whitewash at the hands of John Part. John Lowe (darts Player)
John Lowe (born 21 July 1945) is an English former professional darts player. Along with Eric Bristow and Jocky Wilson, he was known for dominating darts during the 1980s. Lowe was world champion on three occasions, in 1979, 1987 and 1993. He was also a two-time winner of the Winmau World Masters and a two-time World Cup singles champion. In total, Lowe won 15 BDO and WDF majors. He held the World No. 1 ranking on four occasions. In October 1984, he became the first player to hit a televised nine-dart finish. Lowe is one of only six players to have won the World Championship three or more times, and was the first person to win it in three separate decades; along with Phil Taylor, he remains one of only two players to achieve this. Keith Deller
Keith Kelvin Deller (born 24 December 1959) is an English former professional darts player best known for winning the 1983 BDO World Darts Championship and Unipart British Professional Championship in 1987. He was the first qualifier ever to win the championship and remains one of the youngest champions in history. For his world championship win, Deller used 18-gram spring-loaded darts, later banned for tournament play but now legal again. Robbie Green (born 19 July 1974) is a former English professional darts player. His nickname was Kong. PDC career Green made his televised debut at the 2004 UK Open, reaching the last 64 stage. The same year he qualified for the World Matchplay in Blackpool Losing in the first round to Bob Anderson. Colin Monk
Colin Monk (born 29 September 1967) is an English former professional darts player who played in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and British Darts Organisation (BDO) events. Career Monk won the Winmau World Masters in 1996, where he beat Richie Burnett 3–2 in the final. Monk's best run in the BDO World Darts Championship came in 1998 and 2002 when he reached the semi-finals, losing to Raymond van Barneveld and Mervyn King respectively. Monk was also part of what is often cited as one of the all-time great matches at Lakeside in 2003 when he defeated Tony O'Shea 3–2 in the Last 16 in a sudden death leg, with Monk's end average being 97.08 to O'Shea's 94.05. Dave Askew
Dave Askew (born 3 April 1963) is a former English professional darts player who competed in events of the British Darts Organisation (BDO) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He is a two-time semi-finalist of the PDC World Championship (2001 and 2002), losing to eventual winner Phil Taylor on both occasions. Askew was never a full-time professional and earned his living as a bricklayer. Career BDO Askew first made his name in 1988 when he defeated Cliff Lazarenko 6–0 in sets to win the Denmark Open.
