2004 Welsh Open (snooker)
The 2004 Welsh Open was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place between 15 and 25 January at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff, Wales. Stephen Hendry was the defending champion, but he lost in the quarter-finals 4–5 against Marco Fu. Ronnie O'Sullivan recovered from 5–8 down to defeat Steve Davis 9–8 in the final. Welsh Open (snooker)
The Welsh Open is a professional ranking snooker tournament that has been held annually since 1992. It replaced the Welsh Professional Championship, which ran annually from 1980 to 1991 and was open only to Welsh players. The Welsh Open is now the longest running ranking event after the World Championship and the UK Championship. Since the 2016–17 season, it has been one of four tournaments in the Home Nations Series, alongside the Northern Ireland Open, the Scottish Open, and the English Open. Since 2017, the winner of the event has received the Ray Reardon Trophy, named after the Welsh six-time world champion. Reardon himself presented the newly named trophy to 2017 winner Stuart Bingham. Nick Dyson
Nick Dyson (born 19 December 1969 in Hessle, Hull) is an English former professional snooker player. He competed on the main tour over sixteen seasons between 1989 and 2006. Career Born in 1969, Dyson turned professional in 1989. In his first season on the main tour, he reached the last 16 at the 1990 European Open, where he defeated Ian Williamson, Steve Longworth, Dennis Taylor and Martin Clark and was drawn against the resurgent Colin Roscoe. In their match, Dyson led 2–1 but eventually lost 2–5. At the 1991 World Championship, he beat Eddie Sinclair, Mark Rowing and Cliff Thorburn - becoming the first person to defeat Thorburn in a World Championship qualifying match - to reach the main stages at the Crucible Theatre for the first time. Mark King (snooker Player)
Mark King (born 28 March 1974) is an English professional snooker player. Having turned professional in 1991, King was ranked within the world's top 32 players between 1996 and 2015, and won his first ranking event title in 2016, defeating Barry Hawkins 9–8 in the final of the Northern Ireland Open. He has also appeared in two other ranking tournament finals: the 1997 Welsh Open, where he lost 2–9 to Stephen Hendry; and the 2004 Irish Masters, where Peter Ebdon defeated him 10–7. King has reached the last 16 of the World Championship seven times, in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2008, 2009 and 2013, but has never progressed beyond this stage. Paul Davies (snooker Player)
Paul Davies (born 22 June 1970) is a Welsh former professional snooker player who lives in Cardiff. He turned professional in 1991. Initially based in Hampshire, Davies began his career in which he was mentored by a local amateur snooker player by the name of Bert Garland who died in 1996. Paul now owns his snooker cue. Career He made an immediate impact, reaching two semi-finals in his first 3 seasons – the 1991 Dubai Classic and the 1993 Asian Open, losing to the eventual champions (John Parrott and Dave Harold) in each case. Robert Milkins
Robert Milkins (born 6 March 1976) is an English professional snooker player. Considered one of the most naturally talented and quickest players in the game, Milkins has been a mainstay on the tour since regaining his tour card in 1998. Milkins reached a career high rank of 12 in 2014 and has been in and around the worlds top 32 for two decades. After 27 years as a professional, he won his first ranking title at the 2022 Gibraltar Open. Barry Pinches
Barry Pinches (born 13 July 1970 in Catton, Norwich) is an English professional snooker player, recognisable for his bright and flamboyant waistcoats, which usually feature the yellow and green colours of Norwich City F.C. He is a former top 32 player and ranking-event quarter-finalist. He has compiled over 100 century breaks in his career, becoming the 33rd player to have done so. He has also made one maximum break. Career Pinches won the English Amateur Championship in 1988, enabling him to turn professional in 1989. He is coached by Stephen Feeney. Tony Drago
Tony Drago (born 22 September 1965) is a Maltese former professional snooker and pool player. Known for his speed around the table, during his snooker career he won two professional titles: the 1993 Strachan Challenge Event 3 and the 1996 Guangzhou Masters. He later switched his focus to pool and won the 2003 World Pool Masters beating Hsia Hui-kai 8–6 and the 2008 Predator International 10-ball Championship beating Francisco Bustamante 13–10. Michael Holt (born 7 August 1978) is an English former professional snooker player from Nottingham. A former world Top 20 player, he has won one ranking event – the 2020 Snooker Shoot Out – and two minor-ranking tournaments. Robin Hull
Robin Hull (born 16 August 1974) is a Finnish former professional snooker player. For some time, he was the sole Nordic countries, Nordic player on the game's Snooker world rankings, main tour. He is known as a solid -builder, having compiled over 150 competitive during his career, among the highest for a player who has never featured in the top 16 in the world rankings. Liu Song (snooker Player)
Liu Song (; born 8 December 1983) is a Chinese former professional snooker player from Tianjin. Life and career In 2003, Liu reached the final of the IBSF Under 21 World Championship, in Taupo, New Zealand. Liu faced Neil Robertson, with the score being 11–5 in the Australian's favour. Liu was the first Chinese player to qualify for the final stages of a ranking tournament, the 2004 Welsh Open. To get to the tournament, Liu played four qualifying , the fourth against Fergal O'Brien. Liu was eventually knocked out of the tournament by Marco Fu. Mark Davis (snooker Player)
Mark Davis (born 12 August 1972) is an English professional snooker player from St Leonards in Sussex. He became professional in 1991, and for many years was considered something of a journeyman; however, he vastly improved his game in the late 2000s, and as a result in 2012 made his debut in the top 16. The highlights of his career so far have been winning the Benson & Hedges Championship in 2002 (earning him an appearance at the Masters), and the six-red snooker world championships three times (in 2009, 2012 and 2013).
