2004 Racquetball World Championships
The 12th Racquetball World Championships were held in Anyang (South Korea) from July 30 to August 7, 2004, with players from 17 different countries. The USA swept the gold medals, winning both singles and doubles in the Men’s and Women’s competitions as well as both Men’s and Women’s team competitions. Jack Huczek of the USA won Men’s Singles for the 2nd time, successfully defending the title he won in 2002. Cheryl Gudinas of the USA won her 3rd straight Women’s Singles title. In doubles, the USA’s Jackie Paraiso and Kim Russell successfully defended their Women’s Doubles title. The win was the third consecutive for Russell, who won with Kersten Hallander in 2000. Paraiso’s win was her 6th Women’s Doubles World Championship. Their team-mates, Mike Dennison and Shane Vanderson both won for the first time in Men’s Doubles. Anyang, Gyeonggi
Anyang () is a Administrative divisions of South Korea, city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. With a population of approximately 600,000, it is the 20th largest city in South Korea. Jackie Paraiso
Jackie (Jacqueline) Paraiso (born September 14, 1966) is an American racquetball player. Paraiso was the #1 player on the women's pro racquetball tour at the end of the 1991-92, 1998–99, and 1999-2000 seasons. She is a seven time World Champion in women's doubles, which are more World Championships than any other player. Professional career Paraiso finished in the top 10 at season's end on the women's pro tour 16 times between 1986–87 and 2003–04, including her three #1 finishes. Paraiso's best pro season was 1998-99, when she was in the finals of all seven events, winning six of them, including the 1998 US Open Racquetball Championships beating Christie Van Hees in three straight games, to finish at #1. That success carried over to the 1999-2000 season, when Paraiso won four of the five tournaments and a second US Open and again was #1 at season's end. Racquetball In South Korea
Racquetball is a racquet sport and a team sport played with a hollow rubber ball on an indoor or outdoor court. Joseph Sobek invented the modern sport of racquetball in 1950, adding a stringed racquet to paddleball in order to increase velocity and control. Unlike most racquet sports, such as tennis and badminton, there is no net to hit the ball over, and, unlike squash, no tin (out of bounds area at the bottom of front wall) to hit the ball above. Also, the court's walls, floor, and ceiling are legal playing surfaces, with the exception of court-specific designated hinders being out-of-bounds. Racquetball is played between various players on a team who try to bounce the ball with the racquet onto the ground so it hits the wall, so that an opposing team’s player cannot bounce it back to the wall.
