2004 International Rules Series
The 2004 International Rules Series was the 11th annual International Rules Series and the seventh time a test series of International rules football has been played between Ireland and Australia since the series resumed in 1998. The series was won by Ireland, who won both test matches by comfortable margins and recorded their sixth overall series victory. The series was the first to be played under the new trophy name of the Cormac McAnallen Cup, after the Tyrone team captain, whose death that year from a heart condition came after he had represented Ireland in the previous three series. International Rules Series
The International Rules Series is a senior men's international rules football competition between the Australia international rules football team (selected by the Australian Football League) and the Ireland international rules football team (selected by the Gaelic Athletic Association). The series is played biannually over two Test matches in November after the completion of the AFL Grand Final and the All-Ireland Football Final, which are both traditionally played in late September, and the winner is the team with the highest cumulative score over both Tests; however, there have been six unscheduled years since 2009. The matches are played using a set of compromise rules decided upon by both the two governing bodies; the game is known formally as international rules football. Steven McDonnell (Gaelic Footballer)
Steven McDonnell (born 13 July 1979) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played in the full-forward line for his home club Killeavy St Moninna's and at senior level for the Armagh county team. McDonnell is his county's top scorer in National Football League history, finishing his career with 33–282 (381) in that competition. Austinn Jones
Austinn Gregg "Aussie" Jones (born 28 September 1976) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Australian Football League (AFL). The 176 cm Jones played for the Collingwood reserves in the mid-1990s, but they were afraid to recruit him due to him weighing just 64 kilograms. "Aussie", as he is more commonly known, refused to give up on his dream to play AFL football, and was recruited to St Kilda in the 1994 AFL Draft. Luke Ball
Luke Patrick Ball (born 25 May 1984) is a former professional Australian rules football player who played for the and football clubs in the Australian Football League. From 2003 to 2009 he played 142 games for the St Kilda Football Club where he was captain in 2007 and best and fairest and All-Australian in 2005. Joe Bergin (Gaelic Footballer)
Joe Bergin (born 17 February 1981) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Galway county team from 2000 to 2012. From Galway, he played his club football with Mountbellew–Moylough. Playing career Bergin's rise at a young age was meteoric. Tadhg Kennelly
Tadhg Kennelly (born 1 July 1981) is an Irish-Australian former international sportsperson turned recruiter and coach. He is most known for his top-level careers in both Gaelic football and Australian rules football being the only holder of both an AFL Premiership medallion and a Senior All-Ireland Championship medal, the highest-possible team-based achievement in both sports. He has also represented Ireland in the International Rules Series. Seán Cavanagh
Seán Cavanagh (born 16 February 1983) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Moy Tír Na nÓg club and for the Tyrone county team. He is a five-time All Star winner. He won All-Ireland Championships for Tyrone at minor level and three times at senior level, and captained Ireland in the International Rules Series. Jason Johnson (Australian Footballer)
Jason Johnson (born 25 January 1978) is a retired Australian rules footballer who spent his entire professional career with Essendon of the Australian Football League (AFL). Known as a tireless running midfielder, Johnson's career honours include All-Australian selection in 2001, the same year he won the W.S. Crichton Medal for Essendon's best and fairest player. James Hird
James Albert Hird (born 4 February 1973) is a former professional Australian rules football player and past senior coach of the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Hird played as a midfielder and half-forward, but he was often given free rein by then-Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy to play wherever he thought necessary. Hird was a highly decorated footballer, with accolades including the 1996 Brownlow Medal and membership of the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Pádraic Joyce (born 1 April 1977) is a Gaelic football manager and former player who played as a forward. He has been manager of the senior Galway county team since 2019. Joyce won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship twice with Galway as a player and received three All Star Awards. Nicholas Fredrick Riewoldt ( ; born 17 October 1982) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Nathan Brown (Australian Footballer Born 1978)
Nathan Gordon Brown (born 10 February 1978) is a radio and television football commentator and a former Australian rules footballer for Richmond and the Western Bulldogs in the AFL. He played a total of 219 senior AFL matches and kicked 349 goals. His playing career ended after Richmond told him at the end of 2009 that he would no longer be required as a player.
