2004 Belarusian Premier League
The 2004 Belarusian Premier League was the 14th season of top-tier football in Belarus. It started on April 15 and ended on November 11, 2004. Gomel were the defending champions. Team changes from 2003 season Two lowest placed teams in 2003 ( Lokomotiv Minsk and Molodechno-2000) relegated and were replaced by two best teams from 2003 First League: newcomers MTZ-RIPO Minsk and Lokomotiv Vitebsk, who previously competed in Premiere League as KIM, Dvina and Lokomotiv-96 and is a different team from Lokomotiv Vitebsk, who relegated to First League in 1995 and after a few seasons in First and Second Leagues was disbanded in late 2000. Belarusian Premier League
The Belarusian Premier League or the Vyšejšaja Liha or the Vysheyshaya Liga ( be, Вышэйшая ліга, russian: Высшая лига, "Top League") is the top division of professional football in Belarus, and is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation. The number of teams in the competition has varied over the years from as high as 17 (1992–93 season) to as low as 11 (2012). As of 2016, the league included 16 teams. Each team plays every other team twice during the course of the season. At the end of the season, the two teams with the fewest points are automatically relegated to the Belarusian First League, while the third worst team plays a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team from the second tier. The top two teams from the Belarusian First League automatically win promotion to the Premier League. FC SKVICH Minsk
FC SKVICH Minsk was a Belarusian football club based in Minsk, last playing in the Belarusian Second League. History The team was founded in late 2000 by travel company SKVICH, which had had investments in sport and football projects (such as their own football school) for several years. Before the start of their first season, after gaining support from Belarusian Railways, the team was renamed Lokomotiv Minsk. The team won the Second League in 2001 and finished 3rd in the First League the following year and was promoted to the Belarusian Premier League. Lokomotiv finished in the relegation zone of the table in three of their four seasons in the Premier League; twice they were promoted after only one season, until they got stuck in the First League following relegation in 2008. Between 1987 and 1991, they played in the Belarusian SSR league. From 1992 till 1995, they played in the Belarusian First League. They changed their name to MPKC Mozyr since the 1994–95 season. FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk ( be, ФК Шахцёр Салігорск, ''FK Shakhtsyor Salihorsk'') is a Belarusian Premier League football club, playing in the city of Soligorsk (Salihorsk) . History The club was founded in 1961. During Soviet era Shakhtyor Soligorsk was playing in top or second division of the Belarusian SSR league, occasionally dropping to lower tiers (Minsk Oblast league) for a short time. In 1971, Shakhtyor absorbed two other local Soligorsk teams (Khimik and Gornyak). Their best results came at the end of Soviet days, when the team finished as league runners-up twice (1988, 1990) and won the Belarusian SSR Cup three times (1985, 1986, 1988). History Dnepr Mogilev was founded in 1960 under the name Khimik Mogilev and began playing in the Class B (second tier league) of Soviet championship, which at the time consisted of over 140 teams split into several regional zones. Belarusian Second League is the third tier of professional football in Belarus. It was established in 1992. History and format A strict number of teams and competition format are not defined for the league. Before the start of each season the format of the league is adjusted depending on how many teams are willing to participate and able to fulfill licensing criteria. The Belarusian First League is the second tier of professional football in Belarus. It was created in 1992, following the Belarusian independence. History and format The typical format of the league involves 16 clubs playing a double round-robin tournament over 30 matchdays (with the exception of shortened 1992 and 1995 seasons, which were a single round-robin tournaments). On several occasions the number of participating teams was smaller (15 or 14), due to last minute withdrawals and no teams available for replacement. 2004–05 Belarusian Cup
2004–05 Belarusian Cup was the 14th edition of the football knock-out competition in Belarus. First round All 13 teams from the Second League, 15 teams from the First League (out of 16, excluding Dinamo Minsk youth reserve team Dinamo-Juni Minsk) and 2 amateur clubs started in this round. The games were played on 14 July 2004. Round of 32 15 winners of previous round were joined by 16 clubs from Premier League.
