During the 2003–04 English football season, Swansea City A.F.C. competed in the Football League Third Division. Season summary After narrowly avoiding relegation from the Football League on the final day of the previous season, Swansea improved dramatically on last term's 21st-place finish by ending the campaign 10th in the table, albeit 12 points adrift of 9th-placed Oxford United. Brian Flynn (footballer)
Brian Flynn (born 12 October 1955) is a Welsh former footballer and manager. As a player, he was a Welsh international, who played as a midfielder. Flynn managed the Wales national under-21 football team until May 2012, coming close to taking Wales to their first major championship in 57 years. On 13 September 2010, Flynn was confirmed caretaker manager of the Wales national football team after John Toshack stepped down, prior to the appointment of Gary Speed. Playing career Flynn started his career with Burnley, and made his league debut for the club in the 1973–74 season, when it was in the old First Division. After 120 league appearances he transferred to Leeds United in November 1977. Brad Maylett
Bradley Maylett (born 24 December 1980) is an English footballer. He plays as a right winger. Playing career Maylett started his career in 1998 at Burnley as a trainee making 45 league appearances. He joined Swansea City on loan on 15 March 2003, making six appearances. In June, he joined the club permanently for 250k. On his second debut for the club he scored a hat-trick in a 4–2 victory over Bury at Vetch Field. His first goal came just five minutes into the game. On 18 March 2005 Maylett joined Boston United initially on loan, when he made nine appearances, scoring three goals, before signing on a permanent contract on 1 June. Leyton Maxwell
Layton Jonathan Maxwell (born 3 October 1979) is a Welsh convicted criminal, and former professional footballer and manager. He played as a midfielder, notably for Liverpool where despite not featuring in the Premier League he would play and score in a single Football League Cup game in 1999. He also played in the Football League for Stockport County, Cardiff City, Swansea City and Mansfield Town. He also played in the League of Wales for Barry Town, Carmarthen Town, Rhyl, Bangor City, Caernarfon Town and Aberaman Athletic. James Thomas (footballer, Born 1979)
James Thomas (born 16 January 1979) is a Welsh former professional footballer who last played for Dandenong Thunder in the Victorian Premier League which is one tier below Australia's national competition. He represented Wales at Under-21 level. Thomas began his career as a trainee with Blackburn Rovers, turning professional in August 1997. He struggled to establish himself at Ewood Park and was loaned to a number of clubs before being released at the end of the 2001–02 season. A highlight of his loan spells was when he scored the winning goal for Sheffield United against Preston North End, helping them win 3-2 when they had at one stage trailed 2–0. Another loan spell at Bristol Rovers yielded one goal against Rochdale. Kevin Patrick Nugent (born 10 April 1969) is an English professional football manager and former player. He is the manager of the Millwall U23 team. Playing career Nugent began his career at Leyton Orient in the 1980s and made over 100 appearances in all competitions for the club, spending time on loan at Cork City during the 1988–89 season. After finishing the 1991–92 season as the club's top scorer, he signed for Plymouth Argyle in March 1992 for a transfer fee of £200,000 and made over 100 appearances for Plymouth. Leon Britton
Leon James Britton (born 16 September 1982) is an English footballer and coach who plays for Ammanford in the Cymru South. A midfielder, he spent most of his career with Swansea City, having joined Swansea on a permanent transfer in 2003. Britton went on to make 520 appearances for the club. He joined Sheffield United in the summer of 2010, but transferred back to Swansea in January 2011. Britton instantly became a central figure in Swansea's successful promotion campaign. Roberto Martínez Montoliu (born 13 July 1973) is a Spanish football coach and former professional player, currently as head coach of the Portugal national team. Martínez played as a defensive midfielder and began his career at Real Zaragoza, with whom he won the Copa del Rey. Alan Tate (born 2 September 1982) is an English professional football coach and retired footballer who is an assistant head coach at Nottingham Forest. A former defender, Tate spent the majority of his playing career at Swansea City. After retiring from playing, Tate moved into coaching with Swansea, before joining Nottingham Forest in 2021. Playing career Born in Easington, County Durham, Tate began his career as a trainee at Manchester United, later earning himself a professional contract. Kristian Denis O'Leary (born 30 August 1977) is a Welsh football coach and former professional footballer. He is best known for his spells both as a player and coach at Swansea City. He formerly managed Welsh sides Carmarthen Town and Neath, and American soccer club Atlantic City.
