The 2003–04 season was Hartlepool United's 95th year in existence and their first season in Football League Second Division since 1993–94. Along with competing in the Football League Second Division, the club also participated in the FA Cup, League Cup and League Trophy. The season covered the period from 1 July 2003 to 30 June 2004. Hartlepool United F
Hartlepool () is a seaside and port town in County Durham, England. It is the largest settlement and administrative centre of the Borough of Hartlepool. With an estimated population of 90,123, it is the second-largest settlement in County Durham. Hartlepool is locally administrated by Hartlepool Borough Council, a unitary authority which also administrates outlying villages of Seaton Carew, Greatham, Hart Village, Dalton Piercy and Elwick. Hartlepool was founded in the 7th century, around the monastery of Hartlepool Abbey. The village grew in the Middle Ages and its harbour served as the official port of the County Palatine of Durham. After a railway link from the north was established from the South Durham coal fields, an additional link from the south, in 1835, together with a new port, resulted in further expansion, with the new town of West Hartlepool. Anthony Simon Williams (born 20 September 1977) is a Welsh football coach and former professional footballer who is currently manager of Cymru Premier side Aberystwyth Town As a player, he was a goalkeeper from 1994 until 2012. He came through the youth ranks at Premier League side Blackburn Rovers before going on to feature for Queens Park Rangers, Macclesfield Town, Huddersfield Town, Bristol Rovers, Gillingham, Hartlepool United, Swansea City, Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Carlisle United, Bury, Wrexham and Neath. Antony Sweeney
Antony Thomas Sweeney (born 5 September 1983) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He played in the Football League for Hartlepool United and Carlisle United. He is a first team coach at Hartlepool United. In thirteen seasons with Hartlepool, he made 444 appearances, making him the third highest appearance maker in the club's history. During his time there he won the player of the year award for the 2010–11 season and won two promotions out of the fourth tier. He left the club in 2014 for Carlisle United where he spent two seasons before joining National League side Gateshead. Jermaine Easter
Jermaine Maurice Easter (born 15 January 1982 in Cardiff) is a former Welsh international footballer who played as a striker. Club career Easter started his career as a trainee at Wolverhampton Wanderers, before being released, and joining Hartlepool in March 2001. In May 2003, Easter, still yet to start a first-team game for Hartlepool, signed a new two-year contract. In February 2004, Easter joined Cambridge United on loan, following a short trial, for 2 months. This was later extended to a third and final month. On his return to Hartlepool, Easter had the final year of his contract cancelled by mutual consent, and promptly rejoined Cambridge, on a one-year contract. Hugh Scott Robertson (born 19 March 1975 in Newcastle is a Scottish former professional footballer.) Playing career Aberdeen Robertson started his career playing in the youth team for Aberdeen. He was loaned out to junior football team, Lewis United for a season to continue his apprenticeship. Aberdeen were satisfied enough with his progress to offer him another contract which he signed in 1993. While at Aberdeen, Shuggy made 22 Premier appearances, scoring twice. Adam Boyd
Adam Mark Boyd (born 25 May 1982) is an English footballer who last played for Bishop Auckland. Boyd plays as a striker and started off playing in school while attending Grange Primary School, in his hometown of Hartlepool. During his studies at Hartlepool Manor School of Technology, he played for Hartlepool United, making his debut in 1999. Signing professional forms there, he stayed at his hometown club until 2006, save for a short loan spell at Boston United in 2004. He then moved to Luton Town for a fee of £500,000, but found the style of football employed in the Championship difficult to adjust to, and left a year later, joining Leyton Orient on a free transfer. Stephen Carson
Stephen Carson (born 6 October 1980) is a former footballer, who is now director of coaching at FC Westchester. Career Carson started his senior career in the Scottish Premier League with Rangers. After only a handful of first team appearances, he moved to Dundee United in August 2001 for a transfer fee of £150,000, but he struggled to command a regular place in the team. Ritchie Humphreys
Ritchie John Humphreys (born 30 November 1977) is an English former professional footballer. He is a former chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) and holds a UEFA A Licence coaching qualification. Humphreys started his career with Premier League club Sheffield Wednesday in 1996. Whilst with the club, he was loaned out to Scunthorpe United and Cardiff City. He also won five caps for England at under-20 and under-21 levels. He left the club in 2001 and joined Cambridge United for a short period, after which he joined Hartlepool United. Darrell Clarke
Darrell James Clarke (born 16 December 1977) is an English professional football manager and former player who played in the English Football League. He is the manager of club Port Vale. A box-to-box midfielder, Clarke began his career with Mansfield Town in 1995, where he spent the first six years of his career, making 173 league and cup appearances. In 2001, he transferred to Hartlepool United, where he spent another six years, making a further 136 appearances. He was sent out on loan to Stockport County, Port Vale, and Rochdale in the final years of his spell.
