2003–04 Blackburn Rovers F.C. Season
During the 2003–04 English football season, Blackburn Rovers competed in the FA Premier League (known as the FA Barclaycard Premiership for sponsorship reasons). Season summary Finishing sixth in the Premiership at the end of 2002–03 had booked Blackburn Rovers their second successive UEFA Cup campaign, but it was short-lived. A 5–1 opening-day victory against newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers kickstarted their new season, however, their overall Premiership form was far too dismal to give the side any hope of a third successive European qualification. Indeed, much of the season was spent battling against relegation; a decent finish to the season saw relegation fears eradicated by the end of April. Rovers finished 15th in the final table, putting intense pressure on manager Graeme Souness to turn things around. Blackburn () is an industrial town and the administrative centre of the Blackburn with Darwen borough in Lancashire, England. The town is north of the West Pennine Moors on the southern edge of the Ribble Valley, east of Preston and north-northwest of Manchester. Brad Friedel
Bradley Howard Friedel (born May 18, 1971) is an American professional soccer coach and former player who played as a goalkeeper. Friedel played 84 games for the United States national team between 1992 and 2005, and represented his country at three FIFA World Cup tournaments. He is the current holder of the Premier League record for most consecutive appearances with 310, a feat he achieved during spells at Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. Until he was left out of the Tottenham team on October 7, 2012, the last Premier League games Friedel missed were Blackburn's final two fixtures of the 2003–04 season against Tottenham and Birmingham City, on May 10 and 15, 2004, respectively. Steven Reid
Steven John Reid (born 10 March 1981) is a former professional footballer who played as a right back, having previously played most of his career in midfield. He was most recently the first team coach at Nottingham Forest. Reid began his career with Millwall in 1998, moving to Blackburn Rovers five years later. After an initial loan spell, he joined West Bromwich Albion in 2010. His career was troubled by injury; he once notably played for 45 minutes against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium with a broken leg. Reid retired in 2015 after a season with Burnley. Markus Babbel (; born 8 September 1972) is a German professional football coach and former player who last managed the Western Sydney Wanderers FC. Matthew Brooke Jansen (born 20 October 1977) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker. He started his career with hometown club Carlisle United, and also played for Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers as well as a loan spell with Coventry City. A goalscorer in Blackburn's League Cup victory in 2002, his career declined after a near-fatal motorcycle accident later that year. Andrew Alexander Cole (born 15 October 1971) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker. His professional career lasted from 1988 to 2008, and is mostly remembered for his time with Manchester United, who paid a British record transfer fee to sign him from Newcastle United. Tugay Kerimoğlu
Tugay Kerimoğlu (born 24 August 1970) is a Turkish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He spent the majority of his career for Galatasaray and Blackburn Rovers; winning silverware at Rangers F.C. in-between. Garry William Flitcroft (born 6 November 1972) is an English football manager and former professional player who played as a midfielder. Between 1991 and 2006, Flitcroft spent four seasons in the Premier League with Manchester City, winning the club's Player of the Year award in only his second year in senior football. He joined Blackburn Rovers in 1996, with whom he spent ten years, of which eight were in the Premier League, and won the 2001–02 Football League Cup. Craig Short
Craig Jonathan Short (born 25 June 1968) is a former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Playing career Short was born in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England and after attending Amotherby primary school and Lady Lumley's School ( Pickering) along with his brother Chris, he started his professional career at Pickering Town in the 1986–87 season.
