2003–04 ABA Season ...
The 2003–04 ABA season was the third season of the American Basketball Association, and the first season since the league took a year off in 2002 for reorganization. The regular season started in November 2003 and the year ended with the championship game in March 2004 featuring the Long Beach Jam and Kansas City Knights. Long Beach led by Dennis Rodman defeated Kansas City, 126–123 in the championship game to win their first ABA title. The American Basketball Association (ABA) was a major men's professional basketball league from 1967 to 1976. The ABA ceased to exist with the American Basketball Association–National Basketball Association merger in 1976, leading to four ABA teams joining the National Basketball Association (NBA) and to the introduction of the 3-point shot in the NBA in 1979. League history The ABA was conceived at a time stretching from 1960 through the mid-1970s when numerous upstart leagues were challenging, with varying degrees of success, the established major professional sports leagues in the United States. Joe Crispin
Joseph Steven Crispin (born July 18, 1979) is an American college men's basketball assistant coach at Penn State University. He was previously head coach of the Rowan University Profs from 2016 to 2023. Born in Pitman, New Jersey, Crispin starred as a , point guard for Pitman High School, leading the Panthers to the New Jersey Group I state championship in 1997 while setting the Gloucester County's all-time scoring record for boys' high school basketball (2,651 career points). Crispin was one of the most prolific scorers and efficient point guards in NJSIAA History. He averaged 35.6 Pts/G his Senior and Junior campaigns and overall 24.9Pts/G over his four years. Kansas City Knights
The Kansas City Knights was the name of an American Basketball Association minor league basketball team based in Kansas City, Missouri. They have not played since the 2004–05 season. Franchise history The Knights were one of the ABA's charter franchises and began play during the 2000–01 season. In 2001–02, the following season, the Knights posted a league best 35–5 record that year and ended up winning the ABA championship under head coach and University of Kansas alumnus Kevin Pritchard. Soon after winning the title, the ABA took the year off to re-organize. The ABA then resumed play in the 2003–2004 season. The Knights competed in the ABA for the 2003–04 and the 2004-05 seasons before going dark for 2005–06. Dennis Rodman
Dennis Keith Rodman (born May 13, 1961) is an American former professional basketball player. Known for his fierce defensive and rebounding abilities, his biography on the official NBA website states that he is "arguably the best rebounding forward in NBA history". Nicknamed "the Worm", he played for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The California Heatwave was a professional basketball team in the American Basketball Association (ABA) team based in Madera, California. The team began play in the fall of 2003 at Selland Arena in Fresno, California. The founder of the Fresno Heatwave was Albert Ellis and Richard Hanna. The Fresno Heatwave was coached by Sean Higgins, and its vice president was Janine Nkosi.
