This article gives details of the official charts from 2003. Whilst weeks at number one began to increase with significant numbers achieving 4-week runs, single sales rapidly plummeted, decreasing by 34% since 2002. The year became the first in ten not to contain a million selling single. The year was particularly successful for Justin Timberlake, Busted, Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, t.A.T.u. and Dido. Justin Randall Timberlake (born January 31, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He is one of the world's best-selling music artists, with sales of over 88 million records. Jon Lee (drummer)
Jonathan Henry "Jon" Lee (28 March 1968 – 7 January 2002) was a Welsh drummer. He was the original drummer of the British rock band Feeder. Feeder and early career Feeder were formed whilst Grant Nicholas was a producer, before moving to London to gain more experience. He had already met Lee in Newport who moved to London afterwards. They formed a band named Raindancer, who despite winning a TV slot on ITV Central never gained a record deal. Shortly before this, Lee was a member of Newport band The Darling Buds, although only appearing on a couple of b-sides of the "Sure Thing" single. Raindancer's split saw bassist John Canham part ways with the band, before Simon Blight followed soon after when they reformed as Hum, which was changed to Reel, before then changing their name once again to Real when Taka Hirose took over bass duties in 1995. ''Simply Deep'' is the debut solo studio album by American singer Kelly Rowland. It was first released through Columbia Records and Music World Entertainment on October 22, 2002, in North America, and on February 3, 2003, in other areas. Recorded in three weeks during the hiatus of her group Destiny's Child, it established Rowland as a solo star. It includes guest appearances by Solange Knowles and Joe Budden. It was preceded by the single "Dilemma" with Nelly. It debuted and peaked at #12 on the US ''Billboard'' 200, becoming Rowland's lowest-charting album to date, selling 77,000 copies in its first week. Destiny's Child was an American girl group whose final line-up comprised Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. The group began their musical career as Girl's Tyme, formed in 1990 in Houston, Texas. ''Justified'' is the debut solo studio album by American singer Justin Timberlake. It was released on November 5, 2002, by Jive Records. The album was written and recorded in a six-week period as Timberlake's band NSYNC was on hiatus. Half of the tracks were originally written for Michael Jackson by the Neptunes and later modified. For his solo album, Timberlake began to adopt a more mature image as an R&B artist opposed to the previous pop music recorded by the group. The majority of the album was produced by the Neptunes (credited as " Williams and Hugo") and Timbaland, and features guest appearances by Janet Jackson, Clipse, and Bubba Sparxxx. Turin Brakes are an English band, comprising original duo of Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian, and long-term collaborators Rob Allum and Eddie Myer. They had a UK top 5 hit in 2003 with their song "Painkiller (Summer Rain)". Since starting out in 1999, the band have sold around one million records worldwide. "Not Gonna Get Us" is a song recorded by Russian music duo t.A.T.u. for their first English-language studio album, ''200 km/h in the Wrong Lane'' (2002). Interscope Records released the song on 21 April 2003 as the second Single (music), single from the album. It was originally released as "Nas Ne Dogonyat" ( rus, Нас не догонят, p=nas nʲe dɐˈɡonʲət; Russian language, translation: "[They] Won't Catch Us") on their debut album ''200 Po Vstrechnoy, 200 По Встречной'' (2001). The song was written by Sergio Galoyan, Trevor Horn, Elena Kiper and Valery Polienko, while production was handled by Horn. Musically, the song is a Eurodance-inspired song, and lyrically it talks about the group running away from people as they don't understand their love towards one another.
