Karin Schmalfeld
Karin Schmalfeld (born 19 February 1976) is a German orienteering competitor. She received a silver medal in the individual event at the World Games in 2005. She also competed in the mixed relay, where Germany finished 6th. Schmalfeld had the fourth and last leg, and advanced the German team from 11th to 6th position. She has competed in eight World Orienteering Championships, between 1995 and 2009. Her best results were 9th in the short distance in 2001, 9th in the long distance in 2003, and 5th in the relay in 1995 with the German team. Marianne Andersen (born 26 March 1980 in Drammen) is a Norwegian orienteering competitor. She has won twelve individual medals in the world and European championships, as well as winning nine national championships. In 2017 she won a silver medal in the middle distance after seven years without a medal (mainly due to injury). Barbara Bączek-Motała (born 26 July 1972 in Iława) is a Polish orienteer. Career As a junior, Bączek won two gold medals in the short/middle distance and classic/long distance at the 1992 Junior World Championships in Jyväskylä. She also competed at the 1992 World University Orienteering Championships in Aberdeen. Simone Niggli-Luder (born 9 January 1978) is a Swiss orienteering athlete who has twice won (in 2003 and 2005) all four women's competitions at the world championships. She is widely seen as one of the greatest orienteers of all time. Personal life Born as Simone Luder, she grew up in Burgdorf in the Canton of Bern. She studied biology at the University of Bern, where she graduated in 2003. That same year, she married Matthias Niggli, also a Swiss orienteering athlete. They currently live in Münsingen near Bern and in Ulricehamn, Sweden.
