These are the official results of the Men's 800 metres event at the 2003 IAAF World Championships in Paris, France France (), officially the French Republic ( ), is a country primarily located in Western Europe. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. Ehsan Mohajer Shojaei ( fa, احسان مهاجر شجاعی , born 21 March 1983 in Borujerd) is an Iranian Middle distance track event, middle distance track athlete who specialized in the 800 metres. Mohajer Shojaei was a bronze medalist in the 2006 Asian Games and 2011 Asian Athletics Championships, a competitor at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and a gold medalist at the 2007 Summer Universiade (his first gold medal in an international competition). He was born only one day off of the birth date of fellow countryman Sajjad Moradi, with whom Shojaei ran numerous 800 metres races in international competition. Florent Lacasse (born 21 January 1981, in Paris) is a French middle distance runner who specializes in the 800 metres. He finished sixth at the 2006 European Athletics Championships and seventh at the 2006 IAAF World Cup. He also competed in the 2004 Olympics. In 2007 Lacasse was found guilty of testosterone doping. The sample was delivered on 18 May 2007 in an out-of-competition test in Manosque. He received an IAAF suspension from July 2007 to July 2009. André Bucher
André Bucher (born 19 October 1976) is a retired Swiss 800 metres runner who ran for Adidas. He is best known for winning the gold medal at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton in his event. Bucher also won the indoor bronze that same year. He was born in Neudorf. Bucher won two European Championship silver medals in 1998, 2002 and also silver at the 2002 Indoor. Other achievements include finishing third at the 2003 IAAF World Athletics Final. At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney a medal was possibly chiselled out of him when he was barged into by his competitor Andrea Longo. While Bucher finished the race in fifth place, Longo was later disqualified. On 17 August 2001, Bucher posted a personal best of 1:42.55 minutes in the 800 meters. Bram Som (born 20 February 1980, in Terborg) is a Dutch runner who specializes in the 800 metres. His personal best time of 1:43.45 minutes, achieved in August 2006 in Zürich, is also the current Dutch National Record. He missed the 2005 season, but returned in 2006 to win the national Dutch championship for the fifth time since 2000. Later that year he won the European championship. Khadevis Robinson (born July 19, 1976 in Fort Worth, Texas) is an American retired middle-distance runner and currently coaches both the men's and women's cross country teams along with being an assistant track coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
