The American League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. MLB consists of an East, Central, and West division for each of its two 15-team leagues, the American League (AL) and National League (NL). This division was created before the start of the season along with the American League West division. Before that time, each league consisted of 10 teams without any divisions. Four of the division's five teams are located in the Eastern United States, with the other team, the Toronto Blue Jays, in Eastern Canada. Brandon Backe
Brandon Allen Backe (; born April 5, 1978) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Houston Astros during his career, and appeared in the 2005 World Series as a member of the Astros. Originally a position player, Backe was drafted as a second baseman and played in the outfield in the minor leagues prior to converting to pitching. High school and college Backe starred for Ball High School in Galveston, Texas where he was a two-time team MVP in baseball and earned all-district honors. He was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 36th round of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft, but chose to stay close to home and played his collegiate baseball at Galveston College where he earned third-team All-America honors in . Parque played for the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays of Major League Baseball (MLB) from to . Career Amateur career High school Jim Parque grew up poor in Southern California. His father made less than US$20,000 per year and his mother, a Vietnamese immigrant, worked at a textiles factory in Chinatown, Los Angeles. On this income, Parque's parents struggled to provide for Parque and his brother. Parque himself had to work in a sweatshop in Los Angeles as a young boy. Parque attended Crescenta Valley High School where he was mentored by former All-Star pitcher Jerry Reuss. Dennis Mark Malaska (born January 17, 1978 in Youngstown, Ohio) is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in and the Boston Red Sox in in Major League Baseball. Malaska grew up on the south side of Youngstown, Ohio. He attended Cardinal Mooney High School where he earned three varsity letters in both baseball and basketball, earned All-Steel Valley honors in both sports, and was later inducted into the school's athletic Hall of Fame. Joseph Darley Kennedy (May 24, 1979 – November 23, 2007) was an American Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher. Travis Boyd Harper (born May 21, 1976) is a former Major League Baseball player. Harper was a relief pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 2000 to 2006. High school and college Travis Harper attended Circleville High School in Pendleton County, West Virginia. He was an all-state basketball and baseball player in high school. Geremis Segundo González Acosta (January 8, 1975 – May 25, 2008) was a Venezuelan right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Chicago Cubs (–), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (–), Boston Red Sox (), New York Mets () and Milwaukee Brewers (2006).
