2003 Open Canada Cup
The 2003 Open Canada Cup was the 6th edition of the Canadian Professional Soccer League's open league cup tournament running from mid May through early September. London City defeated Metro Lions 4-2 in a penalty shootout in the final played at Cove Road Stadium, London, Ontario. The victory gave London their first piece of silverware and brought an end to the Ottawa Wizards Canada Cup dynasty. The 2003 edition of the Canada Cup was a historical milestone achieved by the CPSL by opening the tournament to all Canadian professional and amateur clubs in order to provide a potential candidate for the CONCACAF Champions' Cup and a $10,000 reward for the champion. London City Soccer Club
London City Soccer Club is a Canadian soccer team founded in 1973. The team is currently a member of the Canadian Academy of Soccer League. The team plays their home games at the Milton Community Sports Park in the town of Milton, Ontario. The team's colours are red, black and white. Formed on Valentine's Day of 1973 by Markus Gauss in order to field a London entry for the National Soccer League after the departure of German Canadian FC. The Gauss family ran and provided the city of London a professional team for 38 years. Under their tutelage the club was most notable for providing an opportunity for young players to develop in a professional environment. Darryl Gomez
Darryl Gomez (born October 21, 1977) is a Trinidadian-Kittitian former footballer and manager. Gomez began playing football at the college level in 1996 with the Winthrop Eagles. After his completing his scholarship in 2000 he played in the USL A-League with the Richmond Kickers, and the Toronto Lynx. Following his time in the A-League and NPSL he played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League (later renamed Canadian Soccer League) with several different clubs, and would eventually conclude his playing career in the league. Throughout his tenure within the CPSL/CSL his most notable accolade was winning the CSL Championship in 2008 with the Serbian White Eagles. After retiring with the York Region Shooters he was appointed the head coach for the organization in 2014. Stuart Black (born June 2, 1975) is a Nigerian-born Canadian former soccer player who began his career in the Canadian National Soccer League, and finished off his career in the USL A-League, and the Canadian Professional Soccer League. Playing career Black began his career with Toronto Supra of the Canadian National Soccer League in 1996. He helped Supra finish with a third-place finish in the league standings, and secured a playoff position. Their opponents were St. Catharines Wolves in the semi-finals, but were eliminated from the completion with a 2-1 defeat on goals on aggregate. In 1999, he signed with Detroit Rockers of the National Professional Soccer League, where he would have a three-year term and finished with 51 appearances and six goals to his name. Huffman Eja-Tabe (born May 6, 1981 in Limbe, Cameroon) is a former professional soccer player who played in the USL First Division, Canadian Soccer League, and the USL Premier Development League. Career Before turning professional he played four seasons at Algonquin College winning the OCAA Silver Medal in 2001, and the CCAA Championship in 2002. In 2003, he received his second OCAA Silver Medal and in 2004 the OCAA Provincial Champion. In 2002 and 2004 he was selected as OCAA League All-Star, and was a CCAA All-Canadian selection in 2004. The Glen Shields Sun Devils were a soccer team which played in the Canadian Soccer League, Canadian Professional Soccer League from 1998–2002. They played their home matches in Thornhill, Ontario. SC Toronto was a Canadian soccer team, founded in 1994. The team was a member of the Canadian Soccer League, and played its final home games at Lamport Stadium in the city of Toronto, Ontario. The North York Astros were a Canadian soccer team that was founded in 1990. The team initially played in the National Soccer League. The team played their home games at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York, a district of the city of Toronto, Canada. The team's colours were orange and black.
