2003 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship
The 2003 NCAA Division I lacrosse tournament was the 33rd annual tournament hosted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the team champion of men's college lacrosse among its Division I programs, held at the end of the 2003 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse season. Virginia won the championship with a 9–7 win over top-ranked Johns Hopkins. The Cavaliers, led by A.J. Shannon, Chris Rotelli and Matt Ward, won their third NCAA championship. Virginia was able to hang to an 8–5 lead to close out the 3rd quarter. Rotelli led all scorers with one goal and four assists in the finals for the Cavaliers, while Kyle Barrie led Johns Hopkins with one goal and one assist. Virginia goalie Tillman Johnson was the unsung hero of the contest, with 13 saves in the game for a .650 save percentage. He was named the Most Outstanding Player for this tournament. M&T Bank Stadium is a multi-purpose football stadium located in Baltimore, Maryland. It is the home of the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). The Georgetown Hoyas men's lacrosse team represents Georgetown University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college lacrosse. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights men's lacrosse team represents Rutgers University main campus in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college lacrosse. The program first started at the varsity level in 1887. The Hofstra Pride men's lacrosse team represents Hofstra University in the CAA in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's lacrosse competition. They play at James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, New York. History Hofstra fielded its first varsity men's lacrosse team in 1949, hiring Howdy Myers the following season from Johns Hopkins to take over the program. Myers had previously won three national titles with Hopkins. Myers quickly got the program to a high level, where in 1955 Hofstra was 14 and 2, and ranked 3rd in the country. Hofstra defeated Rutgers that season 16-6, to win the Division II national title, Laurie Cox Trophy. The Princeton Tigers men's lacrosse team represents Princeton University in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse play.
