2003 Memorial Cup
The 2003 Memorial Cup (branded as the 2003 Mastercard Memorial Cup for sponsorship reasons) occurred May 17–25 at the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City, Quebec. It was the 85th annual Memorial Cup competition and determined the major junior ice hockey champion of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). It featured the host team, the Quebec Remparts, as well as the winners of the Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Western Hockey League, which were the Kitchener Rangers, Hull Olympiques and the Kelowna Rockets respectively. The Kitchener Rangers won their second ever Memorial Cup, their first being in 1982. They beat the Hull Olympiques in the final, who were trying to win their first Memorial Cup since 1997 when they won it on home ice. André Benoit
André Benoit (born January 6, 1984) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenseman. He played for several professional teams including the Ottawa Senators, Colorado Avalanche, Buffalo Sabres and the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL), Södertälje SK, Tappara and Malmö Redhawks in Europe, as well as Spartak Moscow of the KHL. Playing career As a youth, Benoit played in the 1998 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Ottawa Senators minor ice hockey team. Benoit played five years of junior hockey with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He was not drafted by any NHL team but was signed by the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League (AHL) in the summer of 2005. Kevin Hurley (ice Hockey)
Kevin Barry Hurley, TD (born September 1953) is a British politician and former police officer. He was the Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner between November 2012 and May 2016. He previously served in the Metropolitan Police, reaching the rank of Detective Chief Superintendent. He was also an officer of the Territorial Army, serving first in the Parachute Regiment and then in the Royal Military Police. Early life Hurley attended St Mary's primary school in Eltham from 1959 to 1965. He then went to St. Joseph's Academy in Blackheath, South London from 1965 to 1972. George Halkidis (born June 18, 1982 in Newmarket, Ontario) is a former Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is currently a Portfolio Manager at Richardson Wealth. Playing career The defencemen played in the Ontario Hockey League for the North Bay Centennials from 1999-2002. He was then traded to the Kitchener Rangers during his overage season where he scored the game winner in the 2003 Memorial Cup Championship. He had 91 points in 252 OHL career games. Steve Eminger
Steve Eminger (born October 31, 1983) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Eminger, who is also known for his physical play, started his hockey career with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League in 1999. He was drafted in the first round, 12th overall by the Washington Capitals at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut the next season, but after 17 games in Washington he was sent back down to Kitchener. Kitchener was strengthened by Eminger's return, and they won the Memorial Cup.
