2003 Major League Lacrosse Season
The 2003 Major League Lacrosse season was the third season of the league. The season began on May 31 and concluded with the championship game on August 24, 2003. General information Schedule was reduced from 14 to 12 games. Baltimore moved their games to Homewood Field. Long Island moved theirs to Mitchel Athletic Complex and Rochester moved theirs to Bishop Kearney Field. August 17: The first-ever cancellation of an MLL game occurred when rains forced the Baltimore Bayhawks and Long Island Lizards to cancel their game at Mitchel Field. The league signed a national television agreement with ESPN2. Major League Lacrosse
Major League Lacrosse (MLL) was a men's field lacrosse league in the United States. The league's inaugural season was in 2001. Teams played anywhere from ten to 16 games in a summertime regular season. This was followed by a four-team playoff for the championship trophy, the Steinfeld Trophy, named after founder Jake Steinfeld. League attendance peaked at 6,417 in 2011 and the 2019 average was 4,587. The Chesapeake Bayhawks and New York Lizards (originally the Baltimore Bayhawks and Long Island Lizards) were MLL members throughout its existence and competed in the first three championship games, with the Lizards winning two. The Boston Cannons, the last of the six charter franchises to remain in their original market with their original name, won their first championship in 2011. The Philadelphia Barrage returned to the league in 2020 after an 11-season hiatus. Jon Hess (lacrosse)
Jonathan A. "Jon" Hess is a retired lacrosse attackman who played professional box lacrosse in the National Lacrosse League (NLL), and professional field lacrosse in Major League Lacrosse (MLL). He starred as a member of the Princeton Tigers men's lacrosse team from 1995 through 1998, where he earned National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) lacrosse attackman of the year award, three United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-American recognitions, four Ivy League championships, three national championships, an Ivy League Player of the Year award, and an NCAA tournament most outstanding player award. Hess holds Princeton lacrosse scoring records for both points and assists, and won an NCAA individual national statistical championship for assists. Brian Dougherty
Brian "Doc" Dougherty (born December 10, 1973) is a retired Hall of Fame American lacrosse goaltender. He attended The Episcopal Academy before attending University of Maryland. He is currently the head coach at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. Overview Dougherty is one of the most decorated and accomplished goaltenders in the history of lacrosse. He is a three-time recipient of the Major League Lacrosse Goaltender of the Year Award, and was awarded the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award in back to back years in as the NCAA Goaltender of the Year. In 1995, with the Terrapins, Dougherty was named the NCAA tournament MVP. Mark Millon
Mark Millon (born May 17, 1971) is a retired American lacrosse player who last played for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse. He attended Harborfields Highschool in Huntington, Long Island. He played collegiate lacrosse at the University of Massachusetts. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest lacrosse players of all time. Playing career Millon was a college player at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he gained honors as a three-time All-American (twice on the first team), leading UMass to three births in the NCAA tournament.
