2003 Limerick Senior Hurling Championship
The 2003 Limerick Senior Hurling Championship was the 109th staging of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Limerick County Board. Adare were the defending champions. On 12 October 2003, Patrickswell won the championship after a 1–13 to 0–14 defeat of Adare in the final. It was their first title in three championship seasons and their 18th championship title overall which allowed them to draw level with Ahane at the top of the all-time roll of honour. Paul Carey (hurler)
Paul Carey (November 1978 – 6 November 2020) was an Irish hurler. At club level he lined out with Patrickswell and was also a member of the Limerick senior hurling team. Playing career Carey first played hurling alongside his brothers, Ciarán and Pa, with the Patrickswell club. After success in the minor and under-21 grades, he subsequently joined the club's senior team and won a total of four Limerick County Championship medals, including one as captain of the team in 2003. At inter-county level, Carey lined out with the Limerick minor and under-21 teams, before making his first appearance for the senior team in a pre-season South-East League game in November 1998. Adare GAA
Adare GAA club is a Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA club based in Adare, County Limerick, Republic of Ireland. Adare have reached the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship, County Senior Hurling Final on 12 occasions. After losing the finals of 1968, 1986, 1990, 1993 and 1996, they finally won their first championship in 2001 and successfully defended it in 2002. In 2003, they narrowly missed out on winning three county titles in a row after losing out to Patrickswell GAA, Patrickswell in the final. Mark Foley (Limerick Hurler)
Mark Foley (born 17 April 1975 in Cork (city), Cork, Ireland) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Adare GAA, Adare and was a member of the Limerick GAA, Limerick senior inter-county team from 1995 until 2009. Early life Mark Foley was born in Cork (city), Cork in 1975 and when he was nine months old his family moved to Adare, County Limerick. He was born into a family that had a great interest in Gaelic games. His father would later serve as a selector with the Limerick GAA, Limerick senior hurling team. Foley was educated locally and later attended Mary Immaculate College in Limerick where he studied to be a primary school teacher. The Limerick Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bon Secours Hospital County Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Limerick SHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs in the county of Limerick in Ireland. Ahane GAA
Ahane GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the Ahane, Castleconnell and Montpelier areas of east County Limerick, Republic of Ireland. The club fields teams in both hurling and football and historically is regarded as one of the great clubs of Limerick. Some other class players were the Mackey brothers, Mick and John and Jackie Power among others. Gaelic Grounds
The Gaelic Grounds, know for sponsorshop reasons as the TUS Gaelic Grounds, is the principal GAA stadium in the Irish city of Limerick, home to the Limerick hurling and football teams. It has a capacity of 44,023. History 9 October 1926 saw first steps taken towards creating the Limerick Gaelic Grounds as a GAA stadium of note. A farm containing was purchased at Coolraine on the Ennis Road for development as a sporting grounds. Two years later the new grounds officially opened with two junior hurling games. The first big effort to raise funds for the development of the grounds was in 1932, with the establishment of a development committee, whose remit was to level the pitch, providing sideline seating and erect a boundary wall.
