2003 Kazakhstan Premier League
The 2003 Kazakhstan Premier League was the 12th season of the Kazakhstan Premier League, the highest football league competition in Kazakhstan, and took place between 12 April and 3 November. Teams There were 5 promoted teams to the Premier League for this season, Ekibastuzets, Batys, Dostyk, Taraz and Zhetysu. The Premier League was expanded to 17 teams before the season started and to 19 teams for the 2004 season, this mean no teams were relegated before or after the season. Kazakhstan Premier League
The Kazakhstan Professional Football League ( kk, Қазақстан Премьер Лигасы, ''Qazaqstan Premer Ligasy''), commonly referred to as Kazakh Premier League or simply Premier League, is the top division of football in Kazakhstan. The League is controlled by the Football Federation of Kazakhstan and was set up in 1992. The League is fed into by the First Division and starts in spring and finishes in late autumn because of the low temperatures in the winter, with each championship corresponding to a calendar year. The majority of matches have been played at weekends in recent seasons. Petropavl ( kk, Петропавл, Petropavl ) or Petropavlovsk () is a city on the Ishim River in northern Kazakhstan close to the border with Russia. It is the capital of the North Kazakhstan Region. Population: 218,956. The city is also known colloquially in Kazakh as Kyzylzhar ( kk, Қызылжар, Qyzyljar, "Red Cliff"). Petropavl is about from Kokshetau, northwest of the national capital Astana along the A1, from Omsk. Kokshetau (meaning ''Blueish Mountain'' in Kazakh, kz, Көкшетау, Kökşetau; ; rus, Кокшета́у, p=kokʂɛtaʊ) is a city in northern Kazakhstan and the capital of Akmola Region, which stretches along the southern shore of Lake Kopa, lying in the north of Kokshetau Hills, a northern subsystem of the Kokshetau Uplands ( Saryarka) and the southern edge of the Ishim Plain. Ekibastuz ( kk, Екібастұз, translit=Ekıbastūz, , ەكئباستۇز; russian: Экибастуз) is a city in Pavlodar Region, northeastern Kazakhstan. The population was Ekibastuz is served by Ekibastuz Airport. History The history of Ekibastuz begins in the 19th century, when Kosym Pshembayev, a native Kazakh who was commissioned by Russian merchants to look for mineral resources in that region, alighted on a coal field southeast of Pavlodar. The commercial exploitation of the field started soon after. The field afterwards was sold to a British businessman, Leslie Urquhart. The village of Ekibastuz was established in 1899, named after the nearby lake of the same name, which means 2 heads of salt in Kazakh (''eki'' 'two' + ''bas'' 'head' + ''tuz'' 'salt'). Petr Atoyan Stadium
Petr Atoyan Stadium is a football stadium in Oral, Kazakhstan. It is the home stadium of FC Akzhayik of the Kazakhstan Premier League and was opened 1927. The stadium holds 8,320 spectators. In 1996 it was renamed Petr Atojan, an honorary citizen of Uralsk. History The stadium is the oldest of all currently active stadiums in Kazakhstan. It opened on 29 May 1927 with a game between the city team and the cavalry regiment team. All Urals football clubs that took part in the USSR championship and later in Kazakhstan played their home games in this stadium.
