2003 Algarve Cup
The 2003 Algarve Cup is the tenth edition of the Algarve Cup, an invitational women's football tournament hosted annually by Portugal. It was held from fourteenth to twentieth day of March 2003. The USA won the tournament defeating China, 2-0, in the final game. Format The twelve teams are divided into three groups that played a round-robin group stage, followed by one position play-off match for every team. With 12 teams participating, the Algarve Cup format has been as follows: Groups A and B, containing the strongest ranked teams, are the only ones in contention to win the title. The group A and B winners contest the final - to win the Algarve Cup. The runners-up play for third place, and those that finish third in the groups play for fifth place. The teams in Group C played for places 7–12. The winner of Group C played the team that finished fourth in Group A or B (whichever has the better record) for seventh place. Algarve
The Algarve (, , ; from ) is the southernmost NUTS II region of continental Portugal. It has an area of with 467,495 permanent inhabitants and incorporates 16 municipalities ( ''concelhos'' or ''municípios'' in Portuguese). Olivia Christina O'Toole (born 25 February 1971) is an Irish former international association football forward. She made her debut for the Republic of Ireland women's national football team in 1991 and captained the team before retiring in 2009. Guia (Albufeira)
Guia is a town and civil parish in the Portuguese municipality of Albufeira in the Algarve, from the coast. The population in 2011 was 4,376, in an area of 26.80 km². Cheryl "Fozzy" Foster (born 4 October 1980) is a Welsh football referee and former player. She became the all-time record appearance holder for the Wales women's national football team in 2009, after making her senior international debut in 1997. Albufeira
