The Continental Cup 2002–03 was the sixth edition of the IIHF Continental Cup. The season started on September 20, 2002, and finished on January 12, 2003. The tournament was won by Jokerit, who beat Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the final. IIHF Continental Cup
The Continental Cup is a second-level ice hockey tournament for European clubs (behind Champions Hockey League), begun in 1997 after the discontinuing of the European Cup. It was intended for teams from countries without representatives in the European Hockey League, with participating teams chosen by the countries' respective ice hockey associations. Hans Dobida served as chairman of the Continental Cup until 2018. Format The competition began in 1997–98 with 42 clubs from 26 countries, which expanded to 48 teams for the next two years. The tournament was played in seeded rounds of qualifying groups. There were three rounds of qualifying groups, with winners of qualifying groups progressing to the next round. The three winners of the third round groups entered the semifinals, along with the host club. HK Acroni Jesenice
Hokejski klub Acroni Jesenice ( en, Acroni Jesenice Hockey Club), commonly referred to as HK Acroni Jesenice or simply Jesenice, was a Slovenian ice hockey team from Jesenice that last played in the Austrian Erste Bank Hockey League and the Slovenian Ice Hockey League. They played their home games at the Podmežakla Hall. Throughout its history, the club was regarded as one of the most successful clubs in Slovenian and Yugoslav ice hockey. In September 2012, the club filed for bankruptcy and was dissolved. Steaua Rangers
Steaua Rangers Are a Romanian ice hockey team that currently plays in the Romanian Hockey League. They play their home games at Mihai Flamaropol. History The hockey team was founded in 1951 as CCA București and existed alongside other sections (e.g., football, handball, basketball) in the Steaua București sports club. In 1961, their name was changed to CSA Steaua București. With 40 championship titles and 31 cup victories, Steaua is the most successful ice hockey team in Romania. They last won the Championship in 2006, and the Cup in 2008. In 2008, Steaua joined the MOL Liga along with CS Progym Gheorgheni in addition to the Romanian Hockey League. Monfort Ma'alot is an Israeli ice hockey team in the city of Ma'alot. The team plays in the Israeli League, the top level of ice hockey in the country. History The club was founded in 1999, and won the Israeli League for the first time a year later. The club won back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003, and won their fourth Israeli Championship in 2010. Ma'alot took part in the IIHF Continental Cup in the 2001, 2003, and 2004 seasons. In 2001, they were paired with KHK Crvena Zvezda, HC Levski Sofia, and Istanbul Paten Kulübü, and finished with one win and two losses. In the 2003 season, they lost all three games. KHK Red Star
Sportski klub za hokej na ledu Crvena zvezda is an ice hockey club from Belgrade, Serbia, currently playing in the International Hockey League and the Serbian Hockey League. The club is a part of the SD Crvena Zvezda sports association. SKHL Crvena zvezda was established in 1946 and played in the Yugoslav Ice Hockey League until 1991.
